Mr. A-Z

I’m still not sure if I’m going to the Jason Mraz concert this Sunday. The first time I heard that the Grammy-award winning artist is coming back to Manila, I tweeted Joko and told her that we should watch just so we can be emotional masochists and remember the guys we used to like who are major fans of his, haha!

I only know 5 songs of Mr. A-Z… The Remedy, I’m Yours, A Beautiful Mess, Sleep All Day, and Wordplay. No, wait. there’s another one. Lucky. That cheesy, pathetic single with Colbie whats-her-face. So there. I think Jason Mraz is a talented artist but I’m not a fan. Still, I sorta wanna go to his concert.

Kinda sucked that I helped my friend, Sean to get patron tickets and I have no idea yet if I’ll be able to go. Anyway, at least I can get free steak and I’m always happy to help a friend. I didn’t know that Sean tweeted that whoever helps him score tix will get a prize from Dillingers 1903. :p Yay for me winning a contest that I unknowingly joined!

Hmmm… so am I watching this Sunday? Probably not. But I think I want to now.

To all those watching, ENJOY! 😉

Bacon

We keep on saying that men are pigs but we also keep on saying that we love bacon.

~ my Fb status message this morning

Not saying this because the man that keeps on pushing me to folly and madness is a bit on the heavy side. My Facebook, Twitter and YM pages have been flooded by posts about how much I miss him, hate him, and blah blah blah. I know I’ve been losing followers and friends because of this but I don’t care. I like talking about him even if a lot of my posts are waaaay exaggerated. He’s really not a bad person. He’s just bad for me.

I hate that I have several reasons to completely ignore him but I just couldn’t, maybe because of the other several reasons activating some fiber of hope that things will someday be alright between us.

I hate that he has this effect on me. Even the littlest thing he does can drive me to lose sleep.

The mere memory of his smile makes me effervescent. His hot and cold spells destroy my already endangered sanity. I’m too old to know better. I’m too young to care.

This is a timely rant. It’s been four years. I’m not in love. No, no. In fact I don’t fucking know what I feel.

Phunk! Pump! Pow!

Partied the night away at the MOA concert grounds for the Black Eyed Peas concert. Well okay, not the entire night as there were dragging moments when I wondered why they didn’t get someone to host the event and moments when scenes from Apl de Ap’s Maalaala Mo Kaya episode flashed in my mind. And Smart launched their new logo. Errrrr. Whatevs. I hated that I had such a hard time using my Smart line at all last night to update Fb and Twitter!

Oh well. Aside from the Will.I.Am, Apl de Ap, Fergie and Taboo performing their worldwide hits such as Shut Up, Don’t Phunk With My Heart, Boom Boom Pow, I Gotta Feeling, Dirty Bit/Time of My Life, Don’t Stop The Party and Where Is The Love, there was also a portion when Wil.I.Am did some freestyle rap and wowed the audience with his mixes that included samples from Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Journey and Usher.

The US Ambassador graced the event and announced that he’s making the Fil-Am Apl de Ap an adviser to the US embassy in recognition for his charitable projects. Apl also talked about his foundation and performed a song with kids holding lots and lots of yellow balloons. Yellow, because the We Can Be Anything Campaign is a partnership between Apl de Ap’s and The Ninoy & Cory Aquino Foundation.

I just got to say that Fergie’s absolutely gorgeous and I loved it when she came up the stage wearing her pink dress with lights. Her performance of Big Girls Don’t Cry is still stuck in my head.

Got nothing to say about Taboo except I love his new hairstyle. Nagmukha siyang hot! 😀

Rain, Vincci, Ace and me!

BEP amused the audience by saying Tagalog words. My most favorite albeit it’s in Taglish was, “Ready na ba kayo mag-party???” I replied with, “That’s what I came here for!!!” I think I said that too loud ‘coz the people stared at me for a good 3 seconds. Harhar. But hey, that’s the truth! 🙂

No doubt that the Black Eyed Peas is one of the best groups EVER. I’d be glad to break the collarbone of anyone who wants to disagree. Hehe. :p I felt for Fergie when she started crying and said, “This concert is our graduation. And we are the Black Eyed Peas!”

The night ended that we were all sweaty from jumping and dancing and singing and screaming. Everybody’s feeling that the night’s gonna be a good night was right. 🙂

Thanks, BEP! I hope it’s just really a break that you’re taking. The world needs more feel good music and stellar performaces. And thank you so much for performing PUMP IT. It’s my all-time favorite hit. It has also been my alarm tone for several years. 🙂

Congrats to Futuretainment for producing an awesome show! Can’t wait for the next! 🙂

Wolverine Boxes

Should have posted this last week but I was too busy with field work! :p

We watched Real Steel last week and we liked it! I don’t mind watching it again. =) Please pause to scene where Hugh Jackman was shirtless, ok? :)) But seriously, even if the story’s usual… predictable… it was still entertaining. The father and son aspect was heartwarming and the triumph of the robot underdog wasn’t tacky.  The dialogue was a bit cheesy in some parts but it was ok, nothing that made me want to just concentrate on Wolverine’s Charlie Kenton‘s body. Sorry naman. Crush ko si Hugh Jackman since Swordfish! ❤

ANYWAY. The OST’s remarkably energetic, with tracks from Beastie Boys, Eminem and Foo Fighters. My fave though is the only slow song in the soundtrack, an indie-folk beauty by Alexi Murdoch, All My Days. =)

Besides Fanning, there’s another Dakota that’s captured my heart– Dakota Goyo. He sorta reminded me of Justin Bieber and I found him annoying in the Real steel trailer, but he certainly won me over in the first scene that he danced with Atom.  Cute and talented kid! Yes, babaw hits! And just in case you don’t know…  the young Thor in the Thor (duh) was Dakota!

What else, what else? I wish they create a sequel and let Atom fight Pacquiao. Pareho naman silang People’s Champ. =p

Extra Happy Tuesday

I’ve been having emotionally heavy issues since Friday night and I guess the universe decided to give me a break today. Thank You GOD!

These pretty roses and cake greeted me at my office desk this morning. 🙂

Excuse my crappy camphone, the note says, “Cheer up, Iya!” My friend knows that I love flowers, cheesecake and surprises.

And this afternoon, I received these lovely shoes.

BCBG, Nina and Vera Wang shoes!!! ❤

I feel extra blessed today. I feel very girly and very happy. That is all. =)

Let’s play tennis!

Friends With Benefits is your average rom-com with 2 “emotionally-damages” yuppies agreeing to a no strings attached arrangement and eventually choosing to be in a committed relationship. Career (mis)adventures and family quirks happen in between carnal rampage and falling in love. And of course, there’s always a sick or dying person to tell one of the characters that you have to recognize and cherish the love of your life. Do not let that person slip away. Classic.

I suggest you see this movie in the big screen if you:

1. have a crush on Justin Timberlake (most def brought sexy back)
2. have a crush on Mila Kunis (sorry, she was hotter in Black Swan)
3. have fallen in love with a close or best friend (dun dun dun…),
4. and/or have been in a no-emotions kind of thing (DUNNNNNNN!!!!).

Needless to say, but I’ll say it anyway, I saw the movie because of
some of those reasons. Including #2. :p Whaaaattt? I think seeing her ass is better than seeing JT’s. Hehe.

By the way, this is waaaaaaaay better than Kutcher and Portman’s No Strings Attached.

I almost did not watch FWB as I was afraid that it would bring forth a storm of emotions I couldn’t deal with. With No Other Woman also being screened, I couldn’t help but remember my dark ages. HARHARHAR. Anyway, I watched Friends With Benefits on the same day I saw Next to Normal , that after the beautiful yet depressing play, I had to watch something that would make me laugh my heart out.

I watched it with Joko who I am sure did not watch it because of reason #4. LOLOLOLOLOL

Dylan: “Why do women think the only way to get a man to do what they want is to manipulate him?”
Jamie: “History, personal experience, romantic comedies.”

We both loved the soundtrack especially the songs by Foster The People’s Pumped Up Kicks and Semisonic’s (yep, not Third Eye Blind’s) Closing Time. She liked Woody Harrelson’s character as Justin’s gay colleague and I liked Modern Family’s Luke as JT’s nephew. And of course, we were both amused (and amazed) by some lines. I even had a moment when I shouted, “Teka, I know that line! I fucking know that line!”.
I even tweeted that I found Friends With Benefits more depressing than Next to Normal. That’s an exaggeration, of course. But fine, some scenes made me wonder why our story did not end with a flashmob and a horse-drawn carriage ride. 🙂

Anyway. To explain this entry’s title.

Jamie: “I miss sex.”
Dylan: “I miss sex too.”
Jamie: “I mean sometimes you just need it.”
Dylan: “Why does it always have to come with complications?”
Jamie: “And emotion!”
Dylan: “It’s a physical act, like playing tennis.”
Jamie: “Do you want more beer?” (Bends over, giving Dylan a clear view of her bottom)
Dylan: “Let’s play tennis!”

—–

Dylan (Justin Timberlake) and Jamie (Mila Kunis) think it’s going to be easy to add the simple act of sex to their friendship, despite what Hollywood romantic comedies would have them believe. They soon discover however that getting physical really does always lead to complications.

Next to Normal is Next to Perfect

The only thing I knew about Next to Normal before I saw it last Saturday was that the main character’s cuckoo. Okay, wait. Two things. That I also had to bring a lot of tissue because it will make me bawl like a baby.

True enough, the main character has bipolar disorder and this sickness creates a myriad of issues in her family. The play also deals with drug abuse, young love, suicide and coping mechanisms. Kudos to the cast especially to Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo and Jett Pangan who played the parts of manic depressive Diana and the steadfast husband Dan Goodman. They’re both stellar! Absolute theatre gems! They managed to make me cry and the rest of the audience several times. In fact, there was a guy behind us who started crying in the first 15 minutes of the play. Even my friend Ralph couldn’t help but cry.

Felix Garcia as Gabriel was an effective figment of imagination/haunting past. His eyes conveyed fear, laughter, menace, grief in all the right scenes. Bea Garcia as Natalie did great as a troubled teen and I liked her except for the first few minutes of the show when her voice was a bit raspy. Markki Stroem as Henry (Nat’s devoted boyfie) was cute and sweet and I loved his voice. I wish he was singing Perfect For You to me. Hehe. :p And Jake Macapagal as Dr. Madden looked like a rockstar psychiatrist indeed!

The set design was fantastic. The music was captivating. The songs were gripping. I’ve been listening to all the songs since morning (Thank you, internet!) and I have a feeling I’d still be listening to ’em for the rest of the week.

I guess the reason why I found this play next to perfect is because I am able to relate to the lines delivered even if I do not have a manic depressive mother or a tree hugger for a boyfriend. I’m going to end this entry by posting my most favorite line.

And before it, I am inviting all of you to catch Next to Normal at the Carlos P Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Building, Makati. I think it’s going to run until the 16th of the month. I know my opinion doesn’t really count because I’m not really the best person to talk about theatre (and other forms of art for that matter) so I’m going to give you some facts to convince you. Next to Normal opened in Broadway in April ’09, was nominated for eleven 2009 Tony Awards and won three, Best Original Score, Best Orchestration and Best Performance by a Leading Actress. It also won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, becoming just the eighth musical in history to receive the honor.

And now to my favorite line. I like it so much that I even wrote it down, took a picture of it and played with it.

Happy First Weekend of October 2011

Last weekend was one of the best times I’ve ever spent home. =)

—–

These are 3 of my most favorite things. These kept me company in the almost 5-hour trip to Bataan.

The Ilocos Chichacorn is not so salty and popped just right. To all my friends vacationing in Ilocos, yes, this is the pasalubong I expect you to buy for me. Damihan niyo ha.

Three Musketeers is my all time favorite chocolate. I know it’s very sweet, but I rarely get to eat it so I dismiss its sugar and calorie content each time I gobble it up.

Sweet Valley High is my uber-fantasy of choice. I know some of you are puking right now, but i’m just gonna shrug it off. I love the predictable couple Todd and Elizabeth. And in my head, Liz did not end up with Bruce and Todd with Jessica.

—–

I love Sunday comics. Mama loves fruits. She bought a copy of Philippine Star and I bought her favorites lanzones and grapes.

Dennis the Menace is the cutest! I also like the grumpy Mr. Wilson. Mama can finish a kilo of lanzones and half a kilo of grapes in one sitting. I managed to eat 3 of the former and 5 of the latter. I’m not a fan of these fruits but I like it each time my Mama smiles when she sees me pop these healthy treats. :p

I was very hungry and I told my mom I wanted breakfast. I was surprised to see my Daddy in the kitchen cooking. Seryosong-seryoso ang expression, parang nasa Iron Chef. I went to the living room to watch the morning news and after 5 minutes, he presented this plate for me– his baby girl!

My very own breakfast HAPPY MEAL! I love my Dada! 🙂

—–

I’m a very blessed girl. I may not be rich in the material sense but my life is overflowing with love, given and received. 🙂
