Imho, the Vatican should really be in the digital arena spreading The Word. I followed several Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr accounts to see inspirational verses before I finally decided to get my own Bible. The internet is a great stepping stone to make people get to know the teachings of Christ. I am very interested to read what the Pope has got to say about the hundreds of issues we’re facing. And of course, I am expecting that he will impart lessons that can answer a question with utmost importance– What Would Jesus Do?

Let’s see on December 12 what his first tweet will be. 🙂

ZOMG TDKR!!!

Taking a break from my busy sched to talk about The Dark Knight Rises!

Saw it on its 3rd screening day. The only avilable tickets were for 11:45pm. Quite late but we got them anyway. Couldn’t let the weekend pass without seeing Bruce Wayne aka Batman aka my one true love. :p

Somebody told me spoilers the day before and it fucking pissed me off. I will not do the same to you, so feel free to finish reading this post. 🙂

I was sad to see the last of the Nolan-Bale collaboration end but I was relieved that they made a great end to the Dark Knight trilogy. Still, Batman Begins is my favorite (because I’m a sucker for firsts) and The Dark Knight is the best, just because it’s the darkest among the 3 aaaaannnddd Heath Ledger (RIP) was an amazing Joker.

The news about the bombing in Colorado at the TDKR premiere was heartbreaking. If only Batman were real, I’m sure he’d take the bastard out and run him over with the Bat Pod. Christian Bale *swoons* visited the victims and it’s a reminder that a person doesn’t have to be a superhero to reach out.

The friend I watched with is a Batman geek and he said that Anne Hathaway makes a terrific Catwoman, true to the comics. Well, I dunno. I’ve never read any of the comics but I agree that Hathaway on the Bat Pod is over the top hot!!! That’s the only part of the movie that rivaled my reaction upon seeing a shirtless Bruce Wayne. Christian Bale in American Psycho is the yummiest though.

As you may have already noticed, this is more of a Christian Bale than a Batman post. Sorry. I’ve been crushing on Christian Charles Philip Bale since 1994. He’s Laurie in Little Women— the guy that Jo March (Winona Ryder) friendzones and marries the youngest March sister. In real life, Christian married Sibi Blazic– Winona’s make-up artist/p.a. in Little Women. Lucky bitch.

Okaaayyy… going back to TDKR, the rest of the cast was superb. Yaaaaay for Michael Caine (Alfred Pennyworth), Joseph Gordon Levitt (Blake. Another hottie!), Gary Oldman (Commissioner Gordon), Marion Cotillard (Miranda Tate) and Morgan Freeman (Lucius Fox). Boooo Tom Hardy! But kudos to him for gaining x number of pounds just to play Bane.

Kung kailan naman first time ako manood from start to finish at mag-fully pay attention sa laban ni Manny Pacquiao doon siya natalo. ‘Di kaya ako abg malas? Ija-jab ko ang magsasabi ng Oo.

Natalo siya kanina ni Timothy Bradley. Ang tanong, natalo nga ba talaga? Maraming nagsasabi na luto ang laban. Kahit ako na isang hindi boxing expert o fan man lang ay kayang magsabi na akala ko talaga, ang decision ay in favor kay PacMan. He started off strong. By almost midfight, Bradley seemed to be bouncing back and throwing jabs at him but Manny was still giving the opponent his punches. Marami nga ang nakapansin na hindi masyadong nagpakitang gilas si Manny pero marami rin ang nagsasabi na karamihan ng rounds ay si Manny ang nanalo.

Bukod sa trending topics na #PacShet #MannyPacquiaoIsStillTheWorldsBestBoxer at #EndOfAnEra, ilan pa sa mga nakapukaw ng atensyon ko ay ang mga reaksyon ng ilang mga becky (gay, bading, bakla) na buti na lang at natalo siya. Beh buti nga daw kasi masyado daw feelingero si PacMan. Sa isang banda, naiintindihan ko ang mga reaksyon nila dahil may panahon rin na hate na hate ko si Manny. ‘Pag may laban kasi dati si Pacquiao, hindi ko magambala ang Daddy ko na mamasyal. Pinagpapalit niya ang bonding time namin para sa boxing. Tsaka nadala rin ako dati sa sandamakmak na bad publicity kay PacMan. Hindi ko rin bet na kadikit ng pangalan niya si very shady Chavit Singson. But he earned my respect and admiration because he really is a damn good fighter. Even his loss now does not stop me from respecting and admiring him. Sana lang, ‘wag naman natin personalin si Manny. True, siguro nga dapat magconcentrate na lang siya sa pagiging congressman pero seriously, anong gambala na ba ang nagawa ng boxing niya sa pagrepresent ng Saranggani? Anyway, may mga beks naman na hindi pinersonal si Manny, God bless you all. Peace. 🙂

Ang pinaka-nakakapagpa-iling sa akin na mga comments ay ‘yung mga dinadamay pa si God sa pagkatalo niya. Nag-aagree ako na grabe sa pagka-vocal si Manny sa newfound faith niya kay Jesus, pero hindi naman siguro dapat dahilan ito para tirahin ng mga walang parehong pananampalataya ang pagiging boksingero niya. Hindi naman porke si Bradley ang nagtamo ng boxing belt na may bling-blings ay hindi na nakapagbigay ng glory si Manny sa Diyos.

Nakakalunod ang mga nagsulputang mga meme dahil sa fight na ito. Ang pinakanagkalat ay ang Claudine Barretto- Timothy Bradley fight. Hahaha iba talaga ang nadulot ng scandal ni Claudine sa NAIA. Kung magkaron ng mirakulo at matuloy ang fight na ito, kay Claudine ang pusta ko.

Nalulungkot pa rin ako na natalo si Pacquiao, lalo na first time manood ng mga anak niya sa mismong venue. Balita ko rin, nahimatay na namang muli si PacMom/Aling Dionisia. Wala akong balita tungkol kay Jinky maliban sa umiyak daw siya at pinahid ang luha sa pamamagitan ng silk hanky na galing sa kanyang Hermes bag. Life goes on. Tapos na ang laban pero hindi pa tapos ang laban. Rematch daw sa November. Isa pa ‘yang dahilan kung bakit daw ipinatalo ng judges si Manny. For money generating reasons at para may isa pang abangan ang publiko.

Gusto ko lang rin palang isingit na kasama sa mga nalulungkot at hindi makapaniwala sa pagkatalo ni PacMan ang mga Hollywood celebrities na sina Justin Timberlake (eeeeeeee kinikilig ako!!!), Jessica Biel, Chris Daughtry, Devon Sawa at Katy Perry. Paano ko nalaman? Aba shempre, sa Twitter.

O ano mga kids? Ituloy na lang natin ito sa rematch sa November. For now, magdoble ibgat muna tayong lahat dahil baka bawiin ng mga magnanakaw ang mga natalo nila sa pustahan at tunaas ang crime rate bukas.

Ninong Manny, para sa akin, ikaw pa rin ang panalo. Time pers, time pers… Concentrate ka muna sa iyong congress duties, pagtulong sa mga Pilipino, pagiging isang mabuting ama at asawa at pagiging isang mabuting Kristiyano.

Hindi pa ito end ng boxing era. Naniniwala ako na babangon ka at dudurugin mo pa si Bradley sa Nobyembre.

Oishi: Nothing Short of O,Wow!

When my friend invited me to attend Oishi‘s new campaign launch, I said YES without asking for further details. My 3 reasons:

1. I’ve loved Oishi since I was a cute (walang papalag) little girl. I remember Oishi Prawn Crackers being my snack of choice whenever my parents and I would watch movies– in Betamax. So now you know how old I am and how long Oishi has been around. 🙂

2. Oishi is one of the loyal partners in our company events. I have seen thousands of our employees and applicants happy because of Smart C, Fiber & Fruit, and Gourmet Picks potato chips. My favorites among these are the Grapefruit Smart C and Natural Sea Salt chips– my current moviesnack of choice. :p tsaka Pillows rin pala.

3. I wanted to know who’s the mystery endorser of their O,Wow! campaign. I read in Twitter that it’s gonna be the Elmo Magalona but I wanted to be there to be sure. Mwehehe!

So last Saturday afternoon, with my friend Homer, I went to Trinoma for the launch of Oishi’s O,Wow! Campaign.

The event was hosted by VJ Andrei Felix and sportscaster Rizza Diaz. The audience was treated to fun and games including the saksakan ng bago na Bring Me! :))

There were 3 humongous boxes at the center of the Activity Area that held the special guests of Oishi. They were cloaked in red when they entered. I knew Elmo was there somewhere. My guess was his onscreen sweetheart Julie Anne San Jose couldn’t be far behind. But who’re the boys that entered the 3rd box? Anong banda sila? Kasing yummy ba sila ng Oishi? Hmmmm…

After loads of potato chips and screaming of O,Wow!’s… the surprise guests were unveiled. Elmo Magalona, check! Julie San Jose, check! Aaaaaannnnddddd… Callalily! So I was right about the yummy part! Kean Cipriano, double check! :))

Oishi gave us a high-energy concert experience. Julie performed several hits including the gasgas na but still fun to listen to, Super Bass. Callalily performed their songs and I was happy to hear Stars again. It transported me back to the time Kean looked so boyish at ‘di makabasag pinggan. Hahaha! Of course, Elmo sang a mix of covers and originals. The crowd (well, mostly teen girls) went gaga when he danced to Teach Me How to Dougie. I was impressed when he sang 3 Stars and The Son. You will be too. You can download the single for free here.

I looked around and saw Miss Pia Magalona with a big smile, looking oh-so proud of her son. Well who wouldn’t be? Elmo is a talented kid that is a fantastic endorser of an equally fantastic brand. His fun and adventurous vibe and Oishi’s variety of delicious and affordable snacks are nothing short of O,WOW!

Midnight Snacking @ Soderno

I was so excited to visit the South last Saturday because of 2 things– to attend my inaanak Caitlin’s 2nd birthday party and to visit Soderno, the newest happy foodie place in Alabang. I spent 16 years of my life living in the South and I still consider it home. I’m happy that there are a lot of new places to go to like Soderno, the new wing of ATC and Dampa in Daang Hari. Maybe if those were already there when I was still living in BF, I would have become obese!

Anyway, enough with my senti moment. On with the kwentong pagkain!

We were still full from Cait’s handa (teriyaki, lumpia, fish fillet, paella, lechon and a lot more!!!) that we decided to just go to Soderno for dessert.

We shared a dozen Taclings. Mini tacos served in eggtrays! The beef ones were delish! Crunchy, savory and a bit spicy… I didn’t like the tuna, the ones with green shells. I think it was only Kassy the flexitarian who enjoyed it. Haha!

Joko got Fried Chocolates and Fried Oreos from Wicked Bites. Both were sinfully delicious and made my heart (and pancreas) scream for help. LOL :p  I expect their Apple Fries with Caramel Syrup to be just as good. That’s what I’ll get next time. I don’t remember how much the fried sweets cost. Joko said less than a hundred each. Anyone?

The BEST part of the Soderno experience was experiencing The Lollicake Factory goodies! The Chocolate and Red Velvet little dessert balls had perfect sweet coatings and rich moist cake underneath! I recommend the lollicakes as party giveaways or aguinaldo for your inaanaks this Christmas. Not bad at all for 40php a piece. Or, you can also get 30 lollicakes and form ’em into a multi-tiered cake and put a HAPPY BIRTHDAY, IYA! :p

The Lollicakes in the picture above are chocolate, buttercream, dulce de leche and peanut butter methinks. Carla bought a whole box to bring to Cebu. Joko was the only one who got to eat the cheesecake lollicake and she couldn’t stop saying how good it was. As in paalis ng Soderno, paghatid kay Kassy, paghatid kina Carla, sa biyahe namin papuntang Laguna, pati sa sleepover ko sa kanila, she even sleeptalked about it!!! :)) Oo na, masarap na!

Btw, the amazing person behind The Lollicakes Factory is no other than LJ Moreno-Alapag. Carla and I know her as Lari Jean Ricafort. She was our classmate in Bene high. Had I known that she’d grow up making fantastic desserts, super binefriend ko sana siya noon! Hehe! Congrats, LJ! Cupcakes, take a backseat! Mabuhay ang mga lollicakes! :p

Congratulations too to Mr. Anton Diaz and Mr. RJ Ledesma for the success of Soderno. I hope I’ll be able to see some of the Soderno fyummies in Distrito! Bawais, please! 🙂

Inaamin ko. Hindi talaga ako fan ng local movies pero noong nalaman ko ang tungkol sa Cinemalaya entry na Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank, sinabi ko sa sarili ko na “Shet, papanoorin ko ‘yan”.

At ito ang mga dahilan ko:

1. Para naman masabi na naka-experience ako ng Cinemalaya.

Hindi ako nakapanood mismo sa week ng festival dahil busy-busyhan ako sa trabaho, but at least, um-attempt ako na makibahagi naman sa local indie scene. Second time ko pala ito, ang una ay noong nabihag ako ng Dagim mula sa genius director na si Joaquin Pedro Valdes. Nanood nga pala ako ng ABSST sa Powerplant. Sold out na kasi sa Glorietta. Good job.

2. Hello?! Title pa lang, palong-palo na.

Kahit Septic Tank lang yata ipangalan dito, gaganahan na akong panoorin. Kahit Babae sa Tae, papanoorin ko pa rin. Astig ang title. Hindi kagaya nang mga bwakanangkorni na pausong titles ng mga palabas sa tv tulad ng Guns & Roses, Bantatay, at ng Happy Yipee Yehey. Sa mga pelikula naman, imberna yung mga title na galing sa mga kanta– Let the Love Begin, Miss You Like Crazy, and ang saksak-puso-tulo-ang-dugo na One More Chance. Seriously, WTF? Itigil na ‘yan.

3. Eugene Domingo. Miss Eugene Domingo. THE Miss Eugene Domingo.

Lingid sa kaalaman ng maraming tao, matagal na sa showbiz si Ms. Eugene Domingo. Hindi pa siya mini-MISS Eugene ay fan na niya kami ng Mama ko. Nanonood lang kami dati ng 2002 painfully dragging soap ni Claudine Barretto na Sa Dulo Ng Walang Hanggang dahil kay Simang, ang funny character of course ni Miss Eugene. Pero ‘wag ka. Nasa Valiente rin kaya siya. O diba! So old school! Curious ako kung may ibubuga nga ba si Kean sa pag-arte. Naaalala ko lang kasi si Kean na kumakanta ng Stars, ‘yung unang hit ng banda niyang Callalily. Totoy na totoy pa siya noon. I remember, some time 2006, nasa Starbucks kami while waiting for our friends from another band na ka-label nila. I was talking to him and he kept on saying “po”. Sabi ko, isang “po” pa ang sabihin niya sa akin, ihahampas ko na ”yung plaque (for 6CycleMind) na hawak niya sa ulo niya. He smiled that super cute boyish smile and said, “Ok, hindi na ako magsasabi ng po. Ok po?” Dapat that time nalaman ko na na may future talaga siya sa comedy. In fairness, ok ang arte niya sa isang comedy film. Sa mga scenes na kailangang maging intense, dala rin niya. Doesn’t hurt na maganda rin yung biceps niya. Awwww, the baby is now… not a baby. Hehe.

Napanood ng mga bosses ko ang Babae sa Septic tank noong mismong festival week. Hindi sila mapigilang maghagalpakan sa tawa sa sumunod na araw na nagkita-kita kami sa office. Dahil hindi naman ako asar sa spoilers, nagpakwento ako kung ano ba ang meron sa ABSST. Kwento naman sila. At doon pa lang, hindi na ako makahinga sa kakatawa. Diosmeh. Lalo na doon sa 3 Types of Acting. Achieve talaga yung TV Patrol acting. I thought, kung sa narration pa nga lang ng ibang tao, tawang-tawa na ako, what more kung ako mismo ang makapanood, tama? Tama.

So ‘yun nga. Nanood kami ng mga kaibigan ko kagabi sa Powerplant at wala akong maipintas sa pelikulang ito. Start to finish, absolute perfection. Kinabog nito ang Tanging Ina, Kimmy Dora, at Here Comes The Bride para sa akin. Pansin mo ba lahat ng movies na ‘yan, kasama si Eugene? Sabi nga ng boss ko, para sa kanya, pati Harry Potter 7, kinabog nito. :p

Ang buong cast ay perfect. Almost perfect. Ang husay nung mga taga skwater, lalo na yung batang lalake na anak ni Mila. Si JM De Guzman rin pala, in fairness, magaling. Cutie rin. Hindi ko kasi siya ma-appreciate sa remake ng Mula sa Puso. Thumbs up siya sa comedy, pero hindi pa niya ka-level si Rico Yan sa drama imho. 🙂 Yung PA lang naman nila sa movie yung hindi ko na-appreciate. Kung asar ang dapat maramdaman ng viewer sa role niya, well congratulations, nagampanan pala niya ng mahusay ang role niya. Pero kung hindi pala ‘yun ang silbi ng role, sorry. Siya lang rin ‘yung hindi ko gusto sa cast ng Here Comes The Bride. Anyway, nasiyahan rin ako sa cameo ng isa pang de-kalibreng artista- si Miss Cherry Pie Picache. Medyo nahilo ako sa scenes nila ni Eugene pero ok lang, worth it pa rin.

Hindi nga lang ito matatawag na comedy. Drama rin ito at musical. Oo, musical rin ito. Kung paano, manood ka na lang para ma-gets mo. Nakakatuwa na naipakita ng mga film makers ang sitwasyon ng lipunan, ang glimpse ng indie film making, buhay ng isang artista, at kung anu-ano pa sa isang makabuluhan at kakaibang paraan. Deserving talaga ang Cinemalaya entry na ito na magkaron ng wide commercial release. Ito ang tipo ng film na hindi dapat pinaguusapan lang sa blogs at nakakubli lamang sa knowledge ng kaunting mga tao. Dapat ito, pinapapanood sa buong bayan.

This film has taste regardless of the septic tank. Shet na istoryang ‘yan. Ang bangis talaga. Wow. WOOOOOOWWWW!!! More powers to the cast and crew! Manood ng pelikula para malaman ang istorya ng sinadya kong i-bold at i-italize. 

Sa sobrang sulit nitong pelikula na ito, kahit hindi rin ako supporter ng pagbili ng original dvds, bibili ako ng original dvd nito. =)

I suck.

Luke is the second famous surfer who thinks I surf. When told that I don’t–I really don’t– he gave an expression that could only be translated into “WEH?!?!???” Hahaha!!! The other guy felt betrayed when I told him I’m scared shitless of waves. Bakit ba? Sinasabi ko naman lagi na poser lang ako. :p

Anyhoodles, I’m sorta flattered that they think I surf. I love their chill lifestyle and oh-so-(effortless)sexy porma. If I weren’t so scared of getting drowned, surfing would be the fitness activity of my choice. 🙂

I’m going to Baler this Friday. Baka mapagkamalan na naman akong surfer girl doon. Hehe.
