Mama’s 60th Birthday

My wonderful mother celebrated her 60th birthday yesterday. 🙂 Thank You God for blessing me with an angel for a mommy. She is the most beautiful, kindest, most prayerful woman I know. I love her so much. 🙂

image
(pic taken when I was 1 1/2 years old and Mama was 31)

I don’t have any party pics to show because she opted not to have a grand celebration. My original plan was to throw a party for her at my uncle’s beach resort. Ayaw daw niya. Gusto daw niya simple lang. ‘Wag daw kaming makialam. Siya daw ang may birthday so siya ang masusunod. Ma’am, yes ma’am! I thought we were going to Subic to eat lunch and watch a movie like what we do when it’s Daddy’s birthday but she said she just wanted to cook some of her favorite dishes and give them to our relatives and neighbors.

It was also a blessing that we didn’t go out anymore because I suffered from fever (with chills! scary! :S) from Saturday to Monday. I think God just took pity on me when I asked Him to make me well because I didn’t want my Mama to worry about me when she should be stress-free on her birthday.

We cooked and gave away food a day before her birthday. She didn’t want to do it on Feb 22 because it’s Ash Wednesday. Here are some of the food we made:

Chunky Chicken Macaroni Salad. The one you see in the picture is the sald before I mixed everything together. This is Mama’s specialty savory salad. Her dessert salad specialty is Chunky Buco Pandan. Yeah, we like our salads chunkee! Funny coz I was the one who taught her how to make these, but she does it much better than me. 😛

image

Maja con Quezo. This was supposed to be maja blanca topped with latik (fried coconut milk curd)  but we were to tired to make latik that we used cheese instead. Mama makes excellent maja. This has been a fave of mine since childhood. 🙂

image

Suman sa Lihiya. This is soaked glutinous rice treated with lye. Mama’s besty Tita Nida made this as a gift for Mama. Well, at least she attempted for it to be a surprise, pero fail kasi sa amin siya humingi ng banana leaves na pambalot. So, buking! :p I brought a dozen suman to the office with grated coconut and sugar. Was too lazy to get panocha. :p

image

Bibingkang Kanin. This was Mama’s birthday(rice)cake. Haha she detested my suggestion that we put candles on it. :p When I was still a little Iya, I’d scrape off the sweet sauce on top and give the rice cake to Mama. Haha, salbaheng anak ko lang talaga dati. :p This is my favorite kakanin after bibingkang malagkit aka bibingka that we usually see during Christmastime.

image

Pansit Bihon: Our quintessential birthday dish because they say it represents long life and because we just really love pansit. :p And even if I was suffering from toncilitis, Mama allowed me to drink Coke because it sucks to eat pansit without Coca-Cola. 😀 And reward ko kasi napagod ako sa kakahalo ng 3 kilo ng pansit!

image

I’m glad that Mama got what she wanted, a simple celebration spent with me and Daddy. She also got a pretty yellow blouse and fab clutch bag from me. :p I stayed home until early morning of her birthday. Haha, I demanded a picture before I left for Manila. Kebs na kung bagong gising at nakapantulog pa. Here it is:

That’s one of the best mornings of our lives. 🙂 Thank You God for giving us Mama! 🙂

Vday 2012: Happy Heart and Happy Tummy!

Besides getting my fill of amusement from reading Facebook Valentine’s status updates, which btw made me realized that I am not the most aggro person I know when heartbroken (haha thank God), I also had my fill of nomnoms from friends and industry partners. 🙂

Thse Krispy Kreme donuts with our company’s logo greeted me in the office on Valentine’s morning. Nope, we are not mutants. That’s not the X-men insignia. :p

image

Lunch was spent at Chicboy-Jupiter with my babe (the gallant pig) and our chaperones (Anna and Mommy Joyce hehehe). What is nagbaboy lang talaga kami sa lechon, extra rice at side dishes. Of course, I just got to have my fave combo of CB6 and sinigang na salmon! :))

image

We were invited by our friends from Papa John’s for dinner so Vincci, Rain, JP and I went there for another pizza and pasta feast! I really love Papa John’s Arrabiata. Totally compensated for me not liking their carbonara, which happens to be one of their bestsellers! :p My newest favorite now is their SUPER PAPA PIZZA. At least, kahit pizza, nagka-super papa ako ngayong Valentine’s. Wahahaha! Anyway, who do you think wioll be the best endorser of Papa John’s? We vote the gorgeous KC Concepcion. Hulaan kung bakit. 😉

image

For dessert, I met up with Joko, Marie and Vlad at Petra & Pilar. Cheesecake for them. Beer for me. :p Well, chicken barbecue for Vlad.

image

The following day, our friends from the Philippine Star held an exclusive dinner for us in Cabalen. good to know that their buffet has gotten better. Just don’t get the Japanese food. I love that there’s a fondue station and they’ve got really good lechon de leche. 😀

image

So those are the evidences that my tummy was really happy this Vday 2012. It follows that my heart’s also smiling. Afterall, no man is making it cry now. Nyahahaha!!! It’s taking its time and it’s excited for possibilities. Who knows? Maybe on 2013, I’ll have him with me for a Valentine’s foodtrip. Huwag lang niya ako aagawan ng pagkain. :))

Speaking of happy and food, i’ll be going home to Bataan tomorrow and will be staying there until mid next week for my Mom’s 60th birthday celebration. For sure, magmimistulang patabaing baboy na naman ako doon. :p

See you next week! Enjoy the weekend! Love more and eat more! 😉

Vday Shmayday

image

So it’s raining and I’m playing Whitney Houston (RIP) hits. Singing All at Once as I’m writing this. Tomorrow is heart’s day and though I am boyfriendless, I’m pretty psyched to celebrate it. :p Don’t mind this post’s title. I just couldn’t think of anything else. Haha!

I still don’t know where I’m going to celebrate Vday– after work of course. I said no to 2 invites because one is too far and I don’t want to deal with the holiday traffic and the other is… hmmm I always say better zero than negative… so there. Enough said. >:p But but but! Bahala na. I like surprises so… 😉

I’ve received pre-vday gifts, mostly food. And ubos na lahat. My EQ is really low. Haha, seriously, I think my EQ has improved significantly in the past few months. I have not been (too) aggro, emo and bitter. I owe this to God who has been showering me with lots of reminders that the past is over indeed and I should just learn from it, move on and patiently wait for the right moment and the right person. Kung si Justin Timberlake ito, hindi natin alam. Malay natin maagaw ko pa siya kay Jessica. Charot! 😀

Let me end this post by sharing one of my favorite quotes. I don’t know who said it though!

“The quickest way to receive love is to give; the fastest way to lose love is to hold it too tightly; and the best way to keep love is to give it wings.”

Advance Happy Valentine’s Day to all! May your day be filled with love and roses and chocolates and songs and laughter and all things that make you happy! 😉

I love flowers(cape)!

Still very busy with work that I haven’t had time to blog about food food food and other stuff. *teehee* Stress has been really off the charts but I have been getting by because blessings are also oh-so many! 🙂

Anyway… wow, it’s already February and one of the things I love about this month is… Valentine’s Day. Front ko lang talaga (dati) ang pagiging emo at aggro. Those who really know me can attest how much of a big sap I am when it comes to romance. :p

And when I think of romance, first that comes to mind is…

Those are the flowers I received on my 30th birthday. FYI, I love roses. White, pink, and yellow! I also like daisies! And tulips! And wildflowers! I don’t like red ones that much even if I love the color red. Oh well, just one of the weird things about me.

Almost two months have passed and the flowers are still pretty.

I still have them displayed at the corner of my room. :p

Send flowers to your loved ones this Valentine’s Day! My favorite flowershop (where my friend ordered these lovely roses) is FLOWERSCAPE. Flowerspace is located at 7561 Bagtikan Street San Antonio Village, Makati, Philippines. Contact Flowerscape with telephone number 028996178 .

Advance happy heart’s day, everyone! 😉

First Food Post of The Year: Hao Hong Kong Diner

Wednesday night, Joko invited me to attend the MSA (Manila Surfers Association) dinner at Hao Hong Kong Diner. Being the (plate)surfer that I am, of course I said yes! I love being with our surfer friends (lifestyling!) and I love trying out new restos. At shempre, alam naman ng nakakarami na matakaw ako.

I had no idea that Hao is just in Jupiter St. Very near my office. I googled Hao and found it odd that it’s been around since the last quarter of 2011 and I only found a couple of posts about it. The diner certainly deserves a blogpost. We were there last night and we all loved the place!

There are maybe 6 or 7 tables inside. The smoking area is almost as big as the non-smoking section. It’s tastefully decorated and the feel is very chill. Ideal for a casual date or a quiet dinner with friends. But with friends like mine, ewan ko lang yung quiet part. 😛 The place closes at 2am on weekdays and 3am on weekends.

The meals are affordable and there are a lot of choices. The servings are not that big though, but it’s okay because most of the food we had were really good. The waitstaff was also friendly and helpful. There is also free wi-fi. You can check out their menu here, here, here and here. :p

Shani enjoyed the crispy pork hoisin rice topping (148php) and century egg (58php). At dahil Chinese siya, naniwala ako sa kanya. I tried the egg and it was good indeed. I also liked the pechay rice (68php), dumplings (68php) and fried tofu (68php). I chose the special soy sauce. I think I would have liked it more if I paired it with the spicy mandarin.

The hot and sour soup became Joko’s instant favorite. I also ordered it because inggitera ako. It was served piping hot and tasted quite spicy. I ate it with the lobster balls (68php). Good combo! The only food I didn’t dare touch was the Chinese chorizo pao because I do not like chorizo. It’s still part of my food hatelist, which also includes curry, macaroons and rootbeer. ^_^

Dessert was Kefir scoop with glazed pao (108php). Delish pao but the kefir was a bit disappointing. Aside from the desserts in their menu, there are also jars that have “sari-sari store” sweets like Stork, Hawhaw Milk Candy, gold coins, jelly and Flat Tops. I love that the bottles of liquor are just right behind it. Treats for the young and young at heart! :))

They have quite a selction of alcoholic beverages and I’m disappointed I only found out about this place yesterday. Had I known about Hao early December, I would have celebrated my birthday here! Our other friends arrived and I did not take note of what they ate because I was too busy Facebook-ing. :p

Lastly, I noticed all of the prices end in 8. Lucky number!!! Advance Happy Chinese New Year to all! 😀 I am very sure that I will go to Hao again. I hope to see you guys there. But I warn you, what happens in Hao never happened! Haha, this is just me quoting one of items from Hao’s Rules. You can find it on every table.

Thanks for reading my very 1st food post this 2012! Or as they say in Mandarin… xie xie! 🙂

Holiday Break 2011

This is my first post for the year and I’d like to talk about the last week of 2011.

I’m still hungover from my loooong vacation in Bataan. I spent 9 days with my family and that length is already a huge deal for me because I don’t get to be home every month.

My Christmas break was spent eating (a lot), sleeping (a lot), joking with my parents, visiting the beach with my cousins, reading The Power by Rhonda Byrne, and thanking God for the numerous blessings He has been showering me and my loved ones.

Here are some of the pictures from my simple yet meaningful stay in Morong from December 24 to January 2.

The Nuestra Señora del Pilar church of Poblacion, Morong, Bataan. This is where we went for mass on Christmas Eve and New Year’s morn.

Elmer, Ate Bel, Therese and I in front of the belen. Yes, eh baket? sa gusto naming mag-pose sa harap. 😛

With Father Gerry Jorge, parish priest. He spearheaded the Angel Tree Project with the goal of giving gift baskets to the 100 less fortunate families of our town.

With my goddaughter/niece Reese and her brother Sean. They visited me Christmas morning. The traditional “pangluluhod” aka aguinaldo time.

My cousin Gerald celebrated his 19th birthday the day before Christmas. I loved the pansit bihon and barbecue. I also got one of the flowers from the cake. Hehehe.

After eating, we watched Praybeyt Benjamin. Naglabas ng projector at screen si Gerald. Ayos, di’ba? :p

Daddy celebrated his 62nd birthday on the 29th. Thank you God for giving me a pogi, loving and superkind Daddy.

After lunch, we watched Enteng ng Ina Mo because it’s our yearly tradition to watch at least one MMFF entry. Then we went to the newly opened SM Olongapo and the jampacked Royal Duty Free.

Media Noche consisted of spicy tuna pasta, 14 fruits, red wine, ham, special macaroni soup, veggie stirfry, rice, lotus cream buchi, sapin-sapin, suman and bread with balsamic vinegar. And also our new favorite dulce de leche ice cream. Busog!!!

I went back to Manila carrying lots of pictures and happy memories from my Christmas vacation. =)

Happy New Year! I wish all your prayers get answered this year!

Last Post for 2011

Been busy having a buhay-baboy time here in Bataan. :p My Christmas was simple and happy. I hope yours was also filled with joy. We celebrated Daddy’s 62nd birthday the other day and I just feel so blessed to have such a wonderful family.

Actually, I’m just taking a break from preparing media noche to update this blog. So, okay. I have to go back to cooking my veggie stirfry.

Happy 2012! Cheers to a more fantastic year!

Will post holiday pics mid next week. 🙂

*We exceeded 12 fruits this time, hahaha and we also have torotot! Mwehehe!

XXX

So it finally happened. I turned 30.

A lot of people have been asking me how it feels like to be 30 and then I tell them I fucking hate it and wait for them to turn pale and try to change the topic. Then I say I’m just kidding and 30 feels like I just became more awesome. Doesn’t sound possible but I don’t know. FEELING NGA EH. :p

(see 29th, 28th, 27th, 26th birthdays)

My 1st 3oth birthday cake (with 29 candles lang na nasindihan hahaha) AND with Peewee na may sign dapat na I ❤ Carla (thanks for the roses!)

I’d like to thank the 483 people who remembered my special day and greeted me. Oh yes. I counted. Para sa mga alam kong nakaalala pero nang-deadma lang, mga pakkshet kayo, may araw rin kayo sa akin. >:) Not that stepping into 30’s made me unforgiving. I just realized that I should not take bullshit from ANYONE. Even if the person is hot. Harhar.

Posing with my 2nd birthday cake with a ? candle mwehehe AND me declaring my age or I could just be doing a W-O.

Extra special thanks to the friends I was with at Whistlestop for my salubong. Good mix of girls and boys from my teen life and my early (?)  adult years.  I got the simple get-together I wanted. NO BOYS, NO DRAMA. I’m glad I did not invite he-who-must-not-not-be-named. Birthday sex wasn’t part of my wishlist. :)) NO FRILLS, NO PROGRAM. Haha, but I liked the Iya Trivia questions that Joko and Donnie prepared.

The Iya Trivia questions AND some of my guests … lovelovelovelovelove ’em both! FYI, mas mahal ko si Christian bale kaysa kay Jericho Rosales.

Birthday proper, had dinner at Cafe Breton. I loved the fresh mango smoothie and Crepe Excalibur! Name pa lang, love ko na. :p Then we went to Bistro 121 for quiz and dinner, well… my 2nd dinner- of mushroom soup, chicken kebab and 3rd birthday cake.

Feeling dainty sa Breton enjoying the crepe i chose because of the name AND kumo-construction worker appetite sa 121.

We owned the 80’s OPM category- thanks to The Vlad! Dinner and quiz was a good choice for my first night as a 30 year old. I was well-fed and quite entertained. 🙂 Cheers to more days of eating out and non-partying! LOL Thirty na nga talaga ako. :p

Been think of crazy things to do before I hit the big 3-0 and I have thought of a few. Not gonna share ’em until I accomplish everything though. That is if I get enough courage to do those things!
