Rock Band > Pop Princess

A friend asked me why I spend so much (well not really) for concert tickets when I can just use the money for more important things (food, clothes, travel, drugs) and yeah, he has a point. Hindi naman ako mahilig manood ng concerts dati, nagsimula lang yata ang pag-aadik ko ng pagpunta sa concerts nung napanood namin sila David Cook and David Archuleta.

I gotta start saving for my out-of-town and out-of-the-country trips, so I gotta get the money for concert tickets out of my list of expenses… but right after I go to a concert this 1st quarter. :p I had to decide whether to watch… Taylor Swift on February 19

or Stone Temple Pilots on March 9.

I decided last week that I’ll go to the STP concert in Araneta. Bakit kamo? Ako na kanta ng kanta ng hits ni Taylor na You Belong With Me, Love Story at Half of My Heart (duet niya with John Mayer)? Ako na namirata agad ng songs from her latest album,  Back to December? Ako na ang alam lang na mga kanta ng STP ay Plush, Vasoline at Interstate Love Song? Hindi ko pa kabisado ang lyrics!

Ang sagot diyan ay, hindi rin ako sure. But I guess I want to try to experience a classic rockband concert. Classic naman sila, di’ba? Hahaha.

Go ako, sa Super VIP section pa. With backstage pass. Eh hindi eh. :p

The John Mayer Experience

After a concert countdown that irked a lot of my friends, the calendar hit October 2 and just like that, John Mayer Day is finally over.

I made sure I annoyed my followers and contacts before, during and a wee bit after the concert with updates and whatnots.

It’s this blog’s turn to annoy all you haters and make my fellow fans happy.

So, I was with Trick, Kassy, Joko,

Joline and Tamille. And umbrellas ann raincoats.

The concert started around 9 with Aiza Seguerra as the front act.

Aiza was amazing. She sang Runaway, Kiss From a Rose, Akala Mo (?), Bilanggo, Bette Davis Eyes and Ang Huling El Bimbo. My favorite from all those? Bilanggo. I didn’t like the original, but her version rocked the house! Kudos, Little Miss Philippines! 🙂

Aiza’s not only amazing, she’s also lucky because it didn’t rain (or at least, not much) when she and her band was onstage.

As for the main act, well, let’s just say that John Mayer got me wet. And all the other girls. Even the boys. Punyetang ulan. JM said, “You waited 5 months and then it rains.”  The rain was mostly a bitch, but it sorta made the experience fun. Haha, that’s how I imagined Woodstock would be like. Thank God it stopped raining sometime middle of the show.

Look at him.

He looked as if he just woke up and realized he has a concert to go to and just picked the nearest shirt and put it on. And the hair!!! Unruly. I know some girls who’ll give anything to run their fingers through those locks. Mwehehe, I’m not one of those girls. I’d rather get him a nicer shirt to put on. Or just have him shirtless!

LOL, okay, moving on…

JM and his boys performed No Such Thing, Perfectly Lonely, Aint No Sunshine, Slow Dancing in a Burning Room, Waiting on The World to Change, Your Body is a Wonderland, Who Says, Heartbreak Warfare, Gravity, Do You Know Me, Why Georgia, and for his last song– Half of My Heart with a sample of Don’t Stop Believing. And GASP! for encore, Edge of Desire. There was 1 or 2 songs that I don’t remember, simply because I don’t like them. Sad that he didn’t play My Stupid Mouth, Lovesong for Noone, Back to You and Friends Lovers or Nothing, but then again like what Gary V tweeted, it’s hard to choose when you have so many hits. But damnit. Huhuhu. I really wanted Neon in the setlist! Oh well! I hope he comes back next year and play all the other great songs!

Truth is, even if I don’t think he was THAT engaging concert-wise and even if I am not fond of people with a cleft chin, I still love him. Because John Mayer IS  John Mayer. And he’s a sexy sexy sexy man that can make me brave the rain on any given day. But hopefully, the next concert’s in Araneta.

Tickets to The Greatest!

I thought I was listening to Dave Matthews the first time I heard No Such Thing. A blockmate had to tell me, “That’s not Dave Matthews. That’s John Mayer.” And of course, I replied, “Who the fuck is John Mayer?”

I googled and there he was… the singular perfection that no amount of future bad publicity can ever change.

Since 2001, there were times that I forgot who Dave Matthews is, but not a single day that I do not remember the genius that is John Clayton Mayer.

If I had to use just my fingers to enumerate my favorite songs of his, the songs would be…

My Stupid Mouth
’83
Back to You
Friends Lovers or Nothing
Why Georgia
Gravity
Heartbreak Warfare
Free Fallin’
Comfortable
& (my most favorite!!!)
Neon

They say he always includes neon in his setlist so I am preparing myself to sing my heart out. “When sky blue gets dark enough to see the colors of the city lights… a trail of ruby red and diamond white hits her like a sunrise………… she’s always buzzin just like neon… neon…” I guess my friends are also preparing to carry me to the nearest hospital just in case I faint out of immobilizing euphoria!

John Mayer: Live in Manila is just a few days away and I’d like all of you to experience his musical genius with me. No. I don’t have the money to buy tickets for all of you. Hehe. So, I’d like you all to join the Manila Concert Scene: John Mayer Live in Manila Contest by clicking on this link.

🙂

Let me motivate you some more…

:p….

Goodluck!

Ultimate Taste Test and Massive Music Fest

Been sick lately and I am not in the mood to post kilometric texts.

Anyhooz, 2 exciting things happened to me this week.

ONE
I went to Our Awesome Planet’s Ultimate Taste Test 4 at the NBC Tent last May 14. I agree with everyone who said it’s the best 200phs ever spent. Imagine, that small amount of money for food and drinks from 50 participants! Huwaw! I am excited for the next UTT!

Went to the Then and Now Massive Music Festival at the MOA Concert Grounds last night. Nine international artists were there for the event and I gotta say that Diana King and All 4 One made me soooo sooooo happy.

All 4 One singing I Can Love You Like That (one of my most fave lovesongs)

Diana King (yaaaa maaaannn!!!)

Move over, Justin!

It’s John Mayer time!

What now, then? I can only really say for myself: Enjoy who I am, the talents and the liabilities. Stop acting careless. In fact, care more. Be vulnerable but stay away from where it hurts. Read. See more shows. Of any kind. Rock shows, art shows, boat shows. Create more art. Wear hoodies to dinner. Carry a notebook and hand it to people when they passionately recommend something and ask them to write it down for me. Root for others. Give more and expect the same in return, but over time. Act nervous when I’m nervous, puzzled when I don’t know what the hell to do, and smile when it all goes my way. And never in any other order than that. And when it’s all over, whether at the end of this fabulous career or of this life, which I hope takes place at the same time, I should look back and say that I had it good and I made the most of it while I was able. And so should you.

– John Mayer

*sigh* See you soon, love.

Then & Now

The THEN AND NOW Massive Music Festival 2010

There’s a huge show coming to Metro Manila on May 2010, and it’s called the THEN AND NOW Massive Music Festival.

Flying in from the United States are JoJo, Diana King, Frankie J, Baby Bash, P.M. Dawn and SWV– each and every one of them performing their greatest hits onstage for all their fans in the Philippines.

The THEN AND NOW Massive Music Festival is a definite all-hits show- not an album tour (where the artist/s only sing cuts from a new-released CD), or a promo tour (where the artist/s only push a couple of songs)- so music fans from all over the country can expect to sing and dance to their favorite tunes all night long.

Word is, other international acts have taken interest in this once-in-a-lifetime event, so we might even be seeing more pop/R&B performers joining the lineup in the near future.

To make things even more interesting, all sorts of prizes will be given away to lucky concert-goers, as we enlist the involvement of music-friendly sponsors and partner companies, who also have a mind to make concert night a lot more festive and fun.

The THEN AND NOW Massive Music Festival 2010 featuring JoJo, Frankie J, Baby Bash, Diana King, SWV and P.M. Dawn happens on a Saturday, May 15, at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds. Tickets are available at Ticketnet and Ticketworld outlets.

The THEN AND NOW Massic Music Festival 2010 is a production of Divan Media.

Ticket Prices:

PhP 4,400.00
PhP 2,860.00
