Welcome to the Twitterverse, Pope Benedict XVI aka @Pontifex !!!

I think it’s terrific that the Pope is now on Twitter.

image

Read all about it here.

Imho, the Vatican should really be in the digital arena spreading The Word. I followed several Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr accounts to see inspirational verses before I finally decided to get my own Bible. The internet is a great stepping stone to make people get to know the teachings of Christ. I am very interested to read what the Pope has got to say about the hundreds of issues we’re facing. And of course, I am expecting that he will impart lessons that can answer a question with utmost importance– What Would Jesus Do?

Let’s see on December 12 what his first tweet will be. 🙂

You can follow Pope Benedict XVI by adding @Pontifex.

“I accept that people are going to call me awful things everyday, and I will always defend their right to do so.” – Barack Obama

Republic Act No. 10175 or the Cybercrime Law is now official. Not sure if it has already INDEED taken effect. I have a lot of things to say but because I don’t wanna go behind bars, this is the only statement I will make about it, and yes, you can even quote me on this—

My comment is “No comment”.

Hay, buti pa si Barack. Eh ‘yung presidente natin– na excuse me hindi ko binoto– errr… okay, Imma shut up now.

Good luck to all of us netizens! =\

Monsoon Del Rosario

Sorry for the late post. I guess it’s pretty evident by now that I have been neglecting this blog. Work still pretty much eats most of my time and it was exceptionally draining on the week that an unnamed weather disturbance hit Metro Manila and the nearby provinces.

Let’s just call it Monsoon Del Rosario. Only people born in the 80’s/earlier will be able to relate. It wasn’t as scary as Milenyo or as devastating as Ondoy but it was definitely something!!! It’s the first time I experienced making a decision not to go to work because I might not make it back home alive and the first time I experienced work being suspended by Malacanang even for private sectors.

Ate B and I stayed home and had a romantic lunch by default. Brownout kasi. We cooked whatever was left in the fridge. We couldn’t even go to the nearest supermarket because of the ankle-high floods we were most likely to encounter in St. Paul and Pasong Tamo.

image{chef’s salad, caramelized onions with baguio beans, lucban longanisa… toshi bear as lunch guest}

Nung nagka-ilaw na, we watched the news and felt pretty grateful that we were dry, safe and warm. What happened in some cities was heartbreaking, especially in Quezon City and Marikina. We hoped that the next day would have less rain contrary to the weather forecast.

It wasn’t raining so hard on Wednesday morning so I went to work. It was still flooded in some parts of Buendia but I was hopeful that it would subside by afternoon because the sun had started to come out. Paasa lang pala. By lunchtime, there was a crazy downpour again. We were sent home by our boss. It was a struggle going home because it was already flooded in Taft-Buendia. I just told myself to brave the waters because the level was nothing compared to that of Fairview or Malibay.

By Thursday, the weather was significantly better. Haring Araw was welcomed with tears of joy by a lot of people. I was happy because kailangan ko nang maglaba at makapagpatuyo ng mga labada. AND I wanted to go home to Bataan.

Daddy discouraged me from going home because there was no electricity in our town. But I didn’t care. I was desperate to see my parents and to eat suman. :p

So I went home and spent the weekend indoors. Didn’t need an electric fan because the air there is cool and fresh. (Plus, it still rained in Morong. Fat, scary raindrops but it didn’t bother me because I was home.) Didn’t need television because I brought lots of reading materials (Nat Geo, food magazine and Garfield). All I needed was internet. Thank you Smart for the fast connection! And thank you self for buying a portable charger and extra batteries.

image
{what the side of our house looks like when it’s raining… probinsyang-probinsya noh?}

I was supposed to stay home until Tuesday morning but a typhoon was approaching the PAR. Mama told me it’s wise I go back to Manila instead of staying home, eating everything in our kitchen and end up being stranded in Morong, missing more work.

Daddy cooked breakfast and made oil lamps to illuminate our dining room. Niiiice.

image
{breakfast habang brownout sa bahay c/o daddy…pati mga lampara siya ang gumawa}

Aside from the blessing of being safe with my family, this monsoon made 2 people reach out to me. They asked if my parents were okay. I think they saw in the news about Bataan being flooded. Our town is far from that area. But I’m glad that even if I am not (?) friends with them anymore, they still managed to remember me or at least the people I love.

What was YOUR monsoon experience?

PacShet

He started off strong. By almost midfight, Bradley seemed to be bouncing back and throwing jabs at him but Manny was still giving the opponent his punches.

But he earned my respect and admiration because he really is a damn good fighter. Even his loss now does not stop me from respecting and admiring him. Peace. 🙂

Life goes on.

image

Time pers, time pers…

Pahabol: Ang galing mo, Jessica Sanchez!!! Dapat talaga, ikaw naging American Idol eh!

At… :p

Instragram for Android

Read in Twitter this morning that Instagram is now available on Android. The first tweet I read about it was from an Android user who said we can be hipsters now because we have this app that turns stupid things into art, or something to that effect. Bleh. Seriously, what is up that boy’s ass? Why are some people so allergic to being called hipsters? What exactly is wrong with being a hipster? But if I know, that boy secretly wants to be a hipster.

Anyway. Tonyo Cruz tweeted a link about elitist iPhone users trashing Instagram. He added, “Pagandahan na lang ng shots!” I replied, “Pagandahan na lang ng subject.” Creating a magnum opus isn’t the main purpose of Instagram, is it? It’s for sharing stuff you experience in a fun, more aesthetically appealing way, right?

And so this is my first Instagram shot. I did not even for a second think of testing it to anything or anybody except me.

image

I think I used the filter, Toaster for that one. Interesting filters, but I’m going to keep my Camera 360 app which I think has more useful filters for my photoblog.

Speaking of photos, you guys might want to do this #PhotoADayApril Project. It’s a few days late, but who cares about the rules, really? I’ll post my entries weekly– maybe arranged using the Photo Grid app.

image

Still thinking if I’ll use Instagram for this project and turn it into a happy hipster weekly thingamajig.

And with that, I invite all of you to follow me on Instagram. Twitter and Facebook — iyassantos. See you there. 😉

Drawsome!

As most of my close friends know, I am a frustrated artist (in Tagalog, maarte). I first heard of Draw Something from a friend (I was actually stalking him on Facebook hahaha) and I was intrigued with the colorful kiddie drawings he and his girlfriend (that bitch!) have been posting on his timeline. I downloaded the app and at first, I didn’t want to play with my Fb contacts just because. I chose random people to be my playmates. This happened 3 weeks ago. It was fun but I didn’t play it a lot then because I was still hooked on Bakery Story and Restaurant Story and it was boring to play with strangers.

image

The addiction started when I attended quiznight in Capricciosa and noticed my teammates playing DS instead of answering the category on massages. nag-aagawan pa ng iPad kung sino ang magdo-drawing! I decided to give Draw Something another try and played with my Fb friends. I slept very late that night trying to earn more coins to buy more colors. I set my alarm earlier than the usual and when I woke up, I looked for my phone, clicked on Draw Something and guessed my friends’ drawings. I was too excited to play because I knew I already had enough coins to buy more colors!

Here’s the very first drawing I made with the 1st color package I bought. Say hi to Mr.Lion!

image

I made that even before I could brush my teeth. Hehe.

Now, I play DS with my college friends, FB and Twitter contacts, colleagues, and a couple of strangers. I love putting effort into anything I draw even if it’s just worth 1 coin! I hate drawing people because I suck at drawing hands, but with the practice I’ve been getting because of this app, I’ve noticed that they’re starting to look like hands and not lumpy sausages! I already bought 4 color packages and I still check my phone often for new drawings. I don’t know until when this addiction to DS will last.

Here’s to hoping Charles Foreman, creator of Draw Something will come up with more ideas to make this app enjoyed by more people for a really long time.

Here’s a link of the successful story of Mr. Foreman. http://kamukamo.com/2012/03/29/creator-of-draw-something-inspiring-story/ Did you know that he was about to give up his company Omgpop that was set to run out of money this May until he created Draw Something and became an instant success? Drawsome, right? 😉

So what are you waiting for? Add me up: iyassantos@gmail.com Let’s draw!!!

Ang Toyomansi ng Chowking. Bow.

This was dinner a couple of nights ago. Chowking wonton noodle soup, siopao and Coke. I always ask for toyomansi and chili for the wonton and I was shocked when the Chowking person won’t give me free condiments.  She said they charge for take-out orders. Fine. I asked how much the soymansi and chili cost. Five pesos each, she said.

WTF?! Five pesos for a small sachet???

I decided not to buy the overpriced condiments. If you look closely, the soymansi in the picture is from…

MINISTOP. It’s just P2.00. Three pesos for the chili, I think.

Three-peso difference for the toyomansi. Seriously, Chowking, may gold dust ba ang toyo niyo? Kaloka. Ang mahal ha. Tsk, tsk.

A Job Fair Story

Been busy for the past few days. There are a lot of recruitment activities in my calendar. Work has replaced food trips and movie dates yet again.

Last Friday and Saturday, our company joined the Jobstreet Career Fair in SMX. There were almost 12,000 attendees on the 1st day. I guess around 8,000 on the second. It was exceptionally humid on the first day and my heart went out to the applicants who had to wait in line for a really loooooong time under the sun.

Inside SMX, I overheard this conversation:

Applicant 1: Gutom na gutom na ako. *eyeing the sausages at the foodstall nearby*
Applicant 1: Meron.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!!! :,(

I really hope those 2 got hired that day. If only they had good comm skills, I would have ushered them to our booth.

PNoy passed by the job fair. I wish it made him realize that he should be doing something about the issues of unemployment and skills enhancement.

Here’s to hoping and wishing that there is indeed a better future for all of us.
