Of Mouthwatering Liempo, Yummy Frozen Brazo and a Coffee-Drinking Cat

There’s a relatively new place in Jupiter called Chic-Boy (that’s for Chicken and baboy, you carnivores!) that has quickly become my favorite because of its Cebu-style liempo and almost-as-delish-as-my-mom’s variety of sinigang.

Manila Boy invited me to a foodies’ assembly (my first ever!) last May 27 at Chic-Boy. At first, I didn’t want to go because I didn’t know any of the foodbloggers attending the event, but when the Undercover Chef said she’ll accompany me, I was all set.

Cat, Marketing Manager of Chic-Boy treated us to an evening of free food. Damn right, 2 of my favorite words! We had Cebu-style liempo, Cebu-style lechon manok, sinigang na salmon belly, guinisang kangkong, lechon sisig, inihaw na talong with bagoong, turones de leche and leche flan. I liked everything, particularly the Cebu-style liempo because aside from being perfectly cooked, it didn’t give me a headache like when I eat other commercial liempo. The sinigang na salmon was delicious, considering it was only 45php (or 28?) a bowl. The lowly swamp cabbage (oo, pinaarte ko lang ang tawag sa kangkong) was flavourful and went well with the lechon sisig.

Joko rockin it, foodie style!

turones con leche (sana lagyan nila ng extra something like langka, nuts ot chocolate! Ü)

I didn’t take a lot of pictures because my camphone felt like a wimp in the company of the cool point and shoot and dslr cameras of my fellow attendees. Hehe, they’re really serious, food/photobloggers. :p I think one of their rules is to take a gazillion photos of the food first before taking a bite. The amazing number of photos payed off, as their blogs are filled with incredible pictures of glorious, glorious food. ‘Yung tipong ‘pag nakita mo, matutuluan mo ng laway ang keyboard mo. Check their blogs out! B’ley, Fritz, Spanky, Fran & Paul, Jane & Bubba, Jon, Kristine & Robin, AJ & Matthew and Candice

Cat and Spanky… thank you! 🙂

The assembly ended with Cat giving us Pier One mugs and gift certificates. Chic-Boy is a subsidiary of Pier One, that’s why. Great food runs in the business (and family).

* I had dinner in Chic-Boy twice after the foodies’ assembly, and I must say,  their chicken inasal and sinigang na baboy are also good.

After my very first foodie-get-together, I had my very first trip to the red-light district of Makati for 2 of the most sinful things made by man ………………………………………………………………………………………………

Both found in Filling Station in Burgos St. :p

Last stop was Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in A-Venue to see the birthday girl Janice aka PussyCAT Jap. She turned 32 and it was her first birthday without a party. Pero ok lang yon, as long as there’s coffee, she’s happy. Adik! And of course, as long as she has great friends with her, she’s happier. Just stating a fact. Haha!

the 2 important Js of my life, Jap and Joko

with the only “cat” I don’t wish to kill… belated happy birthday dear!

I hope you didn’t expect that there really is a coffee-drinking cat! Cats don’t drink coffee, silly! They drink milk. And martinis! LOL.

Food, Project & Food Project

I had two nights out last week with the girlfriends. First one was last Wednesday with Joko and Kwe. We had dinner in Plate and Yummy in A Venue. Weird yet delicious pad thai and crunchy savory sisig! Don’t ask me why the pad thai was weird. I’m not a food expert. Tagakain lang ako. :p But I think I heard something about the mushrooms. Weh, basta, masarap! Vanilla frappes after in Coffee Bean while having a Manila Toffee Company meeting and waiting for Doc CJ to give us the pasalubong from Baguio. Chocoflakes and lengua de gato! Mmmmmmm!

Ako tagakain? Wait, hindi lang pala ako tagakain. Tagabenta na rin pala ako! 😀 Kinikilig ako na dumadami na ang bumibili sa amin ng homemade truffles and toffee. 🙂 Dark chocolate tablea is still the best seller! Favorites rin ang white chocolate vanilla and English toffee. Interested? Email me so I can give you more details. iyassantos@yahoo.com and iyassantos@live.com

Second foodtrip night was last Friday with the girls minus Kwe (hardworking kasi, pfffftttt!!!). We were supposed to eat at Mister Kebab in West Ave but the damn place was packed. We were 20th in line, so we decided to go to Eastwood instead kaysa tumirik ang mata namin sa gutom. Teriyaki Boy! Dindin c/o my LLB Carla. If you still don’t know what LLB means, it’s Lesbian Lover sa Bituka. Carla is the only person is this natural world whose bituka can feel the needs and wants of my own bituka. Hence, she’s my numero uno lamon partner. Unagi, gyoza, maki, teriyaki, tempura, tofu, etc etc! Sarap! At double sarap kasi libre! Hehehe! Dairy Queen for dessert. So happy with their Banana Split Blizzard. At mukhang lahat rin sila na-happy dun, dahil lahat yata kami nakakain dun sa 12oz na in-order ko. Yummmmyyy! Noted: Oreo Cake for Carla’s 28th birthday. Hehehe.

Projects, projects… I have two. First is to get more people to enjoy the truffles and toffee. Again, email me for more details! And two, my food photoblog. I’ve put events into motion. It’s only a matter of time. Trust me, this is going to be goooood. 🙂 Just wait for it, wait for it. WAIT.FOR.IT!

Speaking of projects, I would like to congratulate Carla for getting Jake Cuenca to love her. SERIOUSLY LOVE her.

Sino si Ian? Grrrrr…

Be tough!

Those were the recurring lines from last night when I spent another funfun dindin and coffee with my girls. It was more special than the usual because not only was I with Joko, Carla, and Kwe, my homegirl Cindy was also with us! Yaaaaaay! With the special participation of Luke and Miki during dinner. =)

Thanks to Eraserheads (haha long story… well not really, just too lazy to tell) for the dindin at Chicken Inasal in Greenbelt 1. Grilled chicken + crabfat rice + chicken skin + molo soup + Coke = happy takaw me! Was just with the LLs that time, talking about who Carla’s “other bf” is when Carla saw Luke from afar and in a splitsec, I was shouting his name. (Think Toni Gonzaga shouting I love you Papa Piolo! in the Sprite commercial eons ago. Uhhh almost that loud. Subtract the I love you.) After 2 nanoseconds, we were already twisiting Luke’s arm to give Carla an “I Love Carla” shot of Jericho, and for me, an “I Desire Iya” shot. Haha, I had to make the poor guy promise. Nagpromise naman! Yeeeey! :p Miki took a break from the Greyone sale to join us and after 10years and few breaths short from an ulcer attack, Cindy arrived, too. 🙂

While the LL’s got yoghurt from Froyo, Cindy and I checked out the newly opened Barcino in GB 5. Niiiiiice. Come on guys, buy wine!

4 of the most important girls in my life: Joko, Cindy, Carla, and Kwe

Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf after. My cuz maffy and her friends were also there but we were in separate tables. My forces were concentrated on tarot reading for Cindy. Putakte na-drain ako ha. Cindy was ok with general stuff that I had to beg her to ask specific q’s. She’s definitely the antithesis of Joko. Binugbog ako ng specific q’s. I gotta say Carla’s got the perfect mix of q’s. Hah! She’s my ideal readee! :p And Kwe.. well Kwe… I had to ask the others to get cards for the I-don’t-want-my-future-read Kwe. :p

Had loads of fun with them, but Kwe’s antics totally made my night. Ang kulit ng batang ito. Grrr ng grrr kasi tough daw siya. Hahahaha.

Got home later than planned again. May Saturday shift pa naman. All worth it though. 🙂

Pero di nga, sino nga si Ian?

Hahahahahahahaha.

Pahabol lang, on our way to basement parking, Joko saw a tres cool shirt with this killer line:

SAVE A WAVE. RIDE A SURFER.

Hahaha! I wish i can see my friends again tomorrow in Club Manila East. Surf Sunday!

Toodles!

John & Yoko and CBTL with Jokoness!

The original plan was to finish posting the BeachTrip2K8 pictures and stories, but I decided to just let my Multiply do the talking. Bottomline is, the trip exceeded my expectations and I can’t wait to go back to Bataan with my friends!

Speaking of friends, after so many weeks of planning to meet up, Joko and I finally got together last night. It was an impromptu dinner and coffee that I hope would happen more often.

YM Convo
jokoness: iya, when you’re free, let’s go out for coffee.
iyaiyayow: sure! when?
jokoness: ikaw lola ang may toxic na schedule!
iyaiyayow: aba, kung gusto mo mamaya na eh! 7:30, greenbelt?
jokoness: keri!
iyaiyayow: keri!

See? I can be spontaneous. :p

Dinner. We tried John and Yoko in Greenbelt 5. Cusine: Cosmopolitan Japanese. I ordered the Rise of the Foie Gras and the Green Iced Tea. Joanna Katrina who’s a major help in our rice shortage (3weeks of no rice, woooow!) opted to get the Strawberry-flavored Yakult and the Tempura Banana Split.

Joko said the Yakult bev tasted like Yakult. I wonder why… Hehe. I think her tummy didn’t like it as much as her taste buds. As for the banana split, she said it was delish, but she just can’t figure why it’s the bestseller. Hmmm… probably because it’s a classic? Or maybe because people generally like bananas? Uyyyy… nun-like Joko likes bananas! B-a-n-a-n-a-s! :p

It was my first time to eat foie gras and I must say I liked the experience. I’d like to experience it again! When I’m in the mood to burn precious paper, I’d order that 1,800 foie gras dish they have. (The rice bowl only cost me P289.00.) My only qualm about it is that it’s too oily. But well, what else can I expect from fattened goose liver?

The Green Iced Tea tasted like lime like it was supposed to. I don’t know if Red tastes like real calamansi or if Blue tastes like true Dalandan. I prolly won’t get them next time, though. I want to try their sake mixes. 🙂

Kudos to Mr. Marvin Agustin! From Mister Donut sa Tabi-Tabi to Posh Greenbelt! I have newfound respect for him. (if you can read this, penge discount. Hahaha!)

After John and Yoko, we went to Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf for more chikahan. I always have great conversations with Joko, but last night was exceptional. We only chatted for a short time, but we covered almost everything– strong friendships and broken ones, family love and being a responsible child, retaliation and compassion, business and career growth, no-sex rule in Maldives *gasp*, diets and flirting….

Double kudos to Joko, for being one of my dearest friends and for introducing me to the Moroccan Mint Latte!
