Jappy Birthday!

Janice May Aquino Hernandez aka Jap / Jappy / Jap the Cat /Janis Panis celebrated her ??th  birthday last Sunday. Her birthday salubong was at Mulligan’s Irish Gastro Pub in BF. It was the fitting setting for the mini-party because we used to frequent the place way back when it was still Cafe Francais. It’s conducive for reminiscing and building happy memories. Plus, guests can smoke inside and the food’s gooooood.

image

It was a terribly terrific (yes, I got the adverb and the adjective right) night of…

white wine, tequila, and imported beer
2006 memories (c/o the barkada journal that Jap brought and Dave forcefully snatched and read… handsdown journal superstar is Colleen)
fish and chips and pizza
Opera Cake from Bizu (which is now my favorite…  classic gateau of sponge cake with coffee butter cream and dark chocolate ganache… omg!!!)
make-up updates (the strong bond between Jap and Eunice)
getting old and looking young
verbal kungfu– Jap vs Donnie / Dave vs me
and of course, fantabulous friendships!

Went to Jap’s after Mulligan’s and we had coffee in the backyard before going to sleep. Yes, coffee before zzzzs. That’s how we roll! Took a picture of her that I think is very pretty.

Paranaque Weekend

I had a really happy weekend in Paranaque with my longtime friends. I had more fun than I expected. 😀

Saturday afternoon, I went to Bricktown (near Merville) to visit my inaanak Marcus. My besty Jap also joined us. We talked about sharks, dinosaurs, Sleepy Hollow and getting good grades in school. I’m proud of my inaanak. Makus is growing up to be very smart, sweet and goodlooking. Manang-mana sa Ninang! ❤

image

And aside from those positive qualities, he’s also artistic! Here’s a picture of him drawing the Phantom of the Opera for me and Jap. Fine, kay Jap na siya mana sa pagiging artistic! :p

image

And kids say the darnest things, right? I can’t remember what our topic was when Makus said, “I care about love more than myself. I want them to be happy.” Wow, wow lang di’ba? 🙂

image

Another wow was the food Ate Myla cooked for dinner. 😀 Binagoongang baboy, steamed kangkong and okra, ginisang munggo and pritong bangus belly. Sarap sarap sarap! I do hope that Makus also got his mom’s talent in cooking! 🙂

image

Saturday night, Jap and I went to BF to see some of our college buddies Donnie, Colleen, Dave and Jim. Too bad Chie fell asleep and didn’t get to join us. :p Anyway, it’s always great to be with my college core group. 🙂

image

I missed being with my (straight) boybuds. And that’s even if for them all other boys are fags, pussies or wants to forcefully finger someone. LOL I can’t wait for Joel to vacay here in Manila so we can have another reunion! So that should be late March or early April! Yeaaahhh!

image

Another thing I liked about being with the gang was I got to drink and eat a lot without paying anything. Hahaha. Love you boys! Nakakatuwa na galante na kayo ngayon. Kuripot kayo nung college eh! Mwehehehe! :p We drank in this new bar called Recovery (in front of NLos) and drank some more in my fave bar Tavern Asia and had coffee and shawarma at Behrouz in Santana Grove.

image

Slept at Jap’s and when we woke up, Tita Marilyn cooked us lunch! Hotdogs, fried chicken and nilagang buto-buto! 😀 After lunch, Jap and I had coffee (for her) and tea (for me) in their backyard and just talked about stuff. And God knows how much I enjoy talking to my friends about stuff.

image

And by stuff, I mean all sorts of things. You know how girls are in conversations. We are very talented in jumping from one topic to another. :p before I went back to Makati, we went to Bon Heure and met up with another good friend of ours, Cindy. Of course, to talk about more stuff! Hahaha!

I hope your weekend was as fun as mine! 😉

XXX

So it finally happened. I turned 30.

A lot of people have been asking me how it feels like to be 30 and then I tell them I fucking hate it and wait for them to turn pale and try to change the topic. Then I say I’m just kidding and 30 feels like I just became more awesome. Doesn’t sound possible but I don’t know. FEELING NGA EH. :p

(see 29th, 28th, 27th, 26th birthdays)

My 1st 3oth birthday cake (with 29 candles lang na nasindihan hahaha) AND with Peewee na may sign dapat na I ❤ Carla (thanks for the roses!)

I’d like to thank the 483 people who remembered my special day and greeted me. Oh yes. I counted. Para sa mga alam kong nakaalala pero nang-deadma lang, mga pakkshet kayo, may araw rin kayo sa akin. >:) Not that stepping into 30’s made me unforgiving. I just realized that I should not take bullshit from ANYONE. Even if the person is hot. Harhar.

Posing with my 2nd birthday cake with a ? candle mwehehe AND me declaring my age or I could just be doing a W-O.

Extra special thanks to the friends I was with at Whistlestop for my salubong. Good mix of girls and boys from my teen life and my early (?)  adult years.  I got the simple get-together I wanted. NO BOYS, NO DRAMA. I’m glad I did not invite he-who-must-not-not-be-named. Birthday sex wasn’t part of my wishlist. :)) NO FRILLS, NO PROGRAM. Haha, but I liked the Iya Trivia questions that Joko and Donnie prepared.

The Iya Trivia questions AND some of my guests … lovelovelovelovelove ’em both! FYI, mas mahal ko si Christian bale kaysa kay Jericho Rosales.

Birthday proper, had dinner at Cafe Breton. I loved the fresh mango smoothie and Crepe Excalibur! Name pa lang, love ko na. :p Then we went to Bistro 121 for quiz and dinner, well… my 2nd dinner- of mushroom soup, chicken kebab and 3rd birthday cake.

Feeling dainty sa Breton enjoying the crepe i chose because of the name AND kumo-construction worker appetite sa 121.

We owned the 80’s OPM category- thanks to The Vlad! Dinner and quiz was a good choice for my first night as a 30 year old. I was well-fed and quite entertained. 🙂 Cheers to more days of eating out and non-partying! LOL Thirty na nga talaga ako. :p

The G-Kids

“While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about.”

~ Anonymous

I’ve always wanted to organize an event for kids. I’m very lucky because this dream of mine came true last Saturday.

happy me with some of the G-Kids

My bestfriend Donnie and I, along with our friends (Joko, Kas, Mommy Lee, JP, Trick, Jap etc) went to Nuestra Señora de Gracia in Guadalupe Viejo to be with 60+ kids for snacks and games. We became big sisters and big brothers for the day and played the superlooooong game of Pass the Bag-Hat-Balloon and the very intense game of The Boat is Sinking with the Guadalupe Kids aka G-Kids.

The balloon is spot on. Life is indeed a blessing.

We also assisted them in creating thank-you notes for the people who extended their help through their time, effort and blessings. The kids used crayons, markers, glitters and popsicle sticks! The group who finished first made this:

Thanks to Ate Leejoy, Ate Em, Kuya Brian etc. =)

The winning group received books and school supplies. The kids who won in the 2 games also received the same prizes. After these activities, the kids feasted on pansit, lumpiang shanghai, macaroni soup and cookies/pastries. There was also overflowing orange juice sponsored by Tang. =p

All the kids received bags of toys, Tang and Koko Crunch after the snacks.

I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the success of the event because I was really scared that Donnie and I might not be able to pull it off, considering the one week preparation time and the heartbreaks we encountered from solicitation. I realized that it is true, a little help can really go a long way. And as long as one is focused in goodness, one cannot fail.

Little girl showing her new dress! Yaaay!

I am blessed to have met the kids of Guadalupe Viejo. Through the G-Kids, I remembered how it is to be happy with the simple things that I usually take for granted, like a cup of hot soup or a line of encouragement from a friend. I also sort of missed my days as a preschool teacher. I unleashed this longing in several moments in the outreach, for example…

ME: Mga bata, makinig tayong lahat kay Kuya Donnie. Ang hindi makinig, walang toys mamaya! Hehehe! Check????

KIDS: Check!!!

Hehehe. :p

My colleague Mommy Leejoy, her cousin Em with their group

I’m pretty sure that my friends also enjoyed their time with the G-Kids. I love that I have friends who have big hearts for this kind of endeavor. I’m overjoyed that all of them said they will be helping again in the next outreach. God willing, the next one will be set this December. I have a strong feeling God will not deny this birthday wish of mine. After all, birthday rin ni Jesus that time! :p

Another balloon that speaks of the truth. God is Love. Check na check!

Speaking of birthdays, what triggered the decision for the outreach in Guadalupe is Donnie’s birthday. That was his wish. To spend a day with the kids in the parish that’s very close to his heart. The last part of our afternoon with the kids was when we surprised Donnie with a cake. It had “30” to announce his real age and I had a “2” candle to also grant his wish of just being 20 years young. :))

Jap, me and Donnie. I love my college besties!

Today is Donnie’s birthday. I pray to God that he will have more years to spread love and generosity. I also pray to God to touch more hearts and inspire them to be as loving and as generous as my bestfriend and my other friends.

Of Pocket Friendships and Alabang

You know how it is when you’re with a large group of people you all consider friends and you have a smashing good time, but sometimes you have a smashing better time when you are with just a few of them?

That’s what I feel when I’m with Donnie and Eunice aka Herbert and Harlene (do your pinoy showbiz thing). I’m always guaranteed to have my tummy hurt out of excessive laughter each time we hang out, and that is even most of the time, I don’t know what we’re even laughing about! Of course, I love being with them plus Jap and Colleen, but there are just some topics that won’t cut when the group gets bigger.

I was with them last Monday night at TGI Friday’s ATC. It’s a relief to know that I am making shiny, happy memories in Alabang. God knows I avoided Alabang for a long time because I didn’t want to risk seeing someone who used to have the power to make my moods shift– from fantastic to horrible.

Anyhooz, here are some pics from that night:

Wait. So if they are Herbs and Harlene… who am I? Hero?

Fill up my cup. Mazel tov!

I had a feeling that last night was gonna be a good night… hehe. It was bv-detoxifying! Well, except for the 5-sec epi with the ex (lover. lmfao!) and the morning after hate-text from some pussy who doesn’t know what trust means. But weh, last night was fab. Thanks to the friends and red wine and imported beers.

Another Southsidesteady Saturday

Planned a small get-together with my bene friends. I invited 10 and 6 attended! Wahahaha! Pwede na rin! But still, fuck non-repliers and flakers.

Had dindin first with Cindy at A Veneto. We ordered the eggplant parmigiana and New York style pizza. Not too crazy about both. The pasta was bordering on bland. The pizza was good, but my stomach still belongs to Figaro’s Mexicali pizza. Cindy probably didn’t enjoy her food either because she lost her Moto-phone 10 minutes before we met in the resto. I should have picked Las Paellas instead. Haaaaruuumphh.

dscf3130

After the not-so yummy dindin, we went to Tides. This was where Colleen, her friend Mike, and Donnie followed. God bless nachos and Tequila Rose. I have no idea what mixed drinks we had but I loved the buzz the bluegreen liquid and redorange concoction gave me. Topics included summer plans, the Ateneo parking lot accident, surfers, jokes, stalking, and tarsiers– swimmer tarsiers to be exact. Why? Dahil dito:

Iya: Kala ko ba galing kang Palawan. Asan pasalubong namin?
Donnie: Nakalimutan ko yung mga pasalubong kong mga tarsiers sa bahay eh!
Iya: Dude, sa Bohol nakatira ang mag tarsiers.
Donnie: Eh sa nagswimming silang papuntang Palawan eh!

Ain’t my bestfriend witty? Deluded too!

dscf3158

Yo, Donnie, and Cindy had to go home already and Colleen, Mike and I thought of going to Tabu but we didn’t want to take the chance of not being able to get in because Mike and Joel (we met up with him in Nlo’s) were both wearing slippers that night. Ayokong ma-bounce sila ng bouncer. Checked out Nlo’s 1st anniv party instead. Looked for our friend, Kram but we didn’t find him so we transferred to Tavern Asia. True to the opinion of the majority, their food’s good. Well, we ordered sisig but I believe that if a resto has good sisisg, then everything in the menu is already good. Hehe. :p

Everything was nifty aside from several witches who just won’t grow up and Joel’s lango state. It really pissed me off that it took forever for him to arrive using work as an excuse– when Donnie and I also came from work. Si Donnie nga kakagagaling pang Palawan eh at nagmeeting pa sa Makati! Siya Batangas lang! Plus I had only 2 hours of sleep because I went out the previous night with Jessie and Jeman. Got home almost 5am and I had to be ready for work by 8! Sucked that Joel knew he was going to meet us but he didn’t even control his alcohol intake in their teambuilding or whatever it was he did in Batangas. Tsssh. I didn’t even bother to stop him from leaving come 3ish. Better zero than negative.

Last stop, was NLos again. Saw former schoolmates Leah and Caloi. Kram already left, but it’s ok. I had enough good mems from the night to help me overlook the small negative things the universe dishes out.

dscf3177

Just wanna share my most over-used joke of the night…

Sa bakery…

Pulubi: Aling tindera, palimos po ng cake…
Tindera: Aba, sosyal ka ha! Namamalimos ka na nga lang, cake pa gusto mo. Eto pan de sal!
Pulubi: Duh ate?!??! Birthday ko kaya ngayon!

There. I hope your weekend was as good or better than mine! =)
