If you can’t play, display.

Check out the coconut trees. Yep.

Ilusyonadang arf arf.

Malamang si Enzo ang tinitignan ni Doggie. First time nga palang magsurf ni Enzo niyan.

Bahahahahahahahaha!

And this is with me with my girls and Britney the surfboard.

I love Baler. Ang sulit ng pagkain. Nomnomnom. Mabuhay ang Bay’s Inn!

After lumamon, magkape.

Beach? Baler! Boom!!!

Done with my beachfix!

We went to Sabang, Baler 2 weekends ago to surf. Okay. Joko, Pedro, Jayson, Marie, Aimee and Enzo went there to surf. I went there to eat and and commune with nature. Fine. Only my feet touched the sea, but I still got stoked! 😀

We left Manila 1:30am and I thought I’d fall asleep during the trip. I should have drank more beer in Chic-Boy before I got my ass in the car. :p The trip to Baler was fun. Except when we got to the part of the rough road where there was a thick fog. We arrived in Sabang around 7. The travel time might have been shorter if we knew which roads to take. Pero kudos to Jayson for driving fast and Joko for being an awesome (and talkative) navigator pa rin. 🙂

Haaayyy… Baler, Baler, Baler… I immediately fell in love with the simplicity of the place. Probinsya kung probinsya. Walang keme keme. It wasn’t sunnywhen we got there so I was a bit worried for my new swimsuits. LOL. Eh sabi kasi ng friend namin na si Jeeves, “If you can’t play, display!” But we were so hungry. I had to choose between stuffing my tummy and hiding behind a cover-up OR starving myself and sporting a flat tummy. Aba, ako ito, so naturally, I chose the former.

Hence, I did not have a flat tummy.

WAHINES! photo c/o Alfred Asuncion

PERO KEBER. DISPLAY PA RIN.

Anyhoo, going back, We had our first Baler meal at Bay’s Inn.

Most of us had the Pinoy Big Breakfast: fried fish, tocino, scrambled eggs and garlic rice. This was served with coffee and juice.

Enzo and I, being the gluttons that we are, also ordered Hot and Sour Soup and a plate of bacon.

We enjoyed our brekky so much that we had all our meals in Bay’s Inn. 🙂 Well, except for one that we had in MM (the lodge that served as our home for 2days). We had pancit canton, red egg-tomato-kamias salad and chicharon c/o Jayson. Sarrrraaaappp!

After eating, we arranged our stuff in MM’s and rested for a few. Ako few hours. Natulog ako agad. Hehe. When I woke up, I watched my friends ride the waves. I also watched Zo’s very first surfing experience.

*WILL PUT SURFING PICTURES HERE ONCE ENZO UPLOADS THE LIKE DUCKS-ATS IF-WHICHEVER ALBUM!*

Basically, the activities were: eating, drinking, dropping witty lined and surfing for them. Eating, drinking, dropping witty lines and watching for me. We got to attend 2 parties. The first one sucked. LOL. The second one seemed fun. Can’t really judge the 2nd coz I had an in-between drinking spree. Mmmmmm… 50php sangria… mmmm… :p  The only things I saw in the 2nd party were an awesome poi exhibition (galing ni Joko!!!) and a big bottle of Baler lambanog. Ang sarap. May raisins pa! We were all asleep by 2am.

The Hot Happy Hut Crew minus Aimee (tinulugan kami eh hehehe), photo c/o Gillian Largoon

We all got up by 7. Shempre, early to bed, early to rise. The earlier you get into the water, the more waves you can catch. Whuuutttt? :p

No brekky this morning, unless we count the Nutrigrain (healthy poptarts… fine masarap naman pala) from Joko and mineral water. Everybody was too excited to surf. Here’s a pic of Zo carrying the longboard for his 2nd surfing lesson. It’s not Madox. it’s MAHDOX.

And here’s moi, holding his Lumix.

And here’s me with my NFF, Kyla. Ang local kid na gustong magpicture-picture! :p

After a heavy brunch in our Happy Hut (the coolest hut in Bay’s Inn… kasi doon kami nakatambay hahaha)

and a light merienda of beer and mojos sa harap ng dagat,

we packed our stuff and said goodbye to Baler.

Bye-bye, state of the art, MM Lodge! We’re gonna miss our 700php for 4 fanroom! :p

More kulitan on our way back to Manila. May stop over pa at LJ’s Kainan. Hindi eatery. Hindi karinderya. IT’S KAINAN. I hope the next time we go to Baler, it will be as chill and as fun as this first time. =)

Baler beach hits! BOOM!

Luma-lifestyle

My bestfriend Joko said I should stop calling myself a poseur and just tell people na luma-lifestyle ako. Haha, so ‘yun nga. I went to Casa Nami to attend the MSA surf comp kickoff party last week. Ang saya!!! Good old classic rock!

There are 9 surfers, 2 future surfers and 1 lifestyling surfer in this picture. Guess. Haha.

With Erin, Gillian, Yo, Joko… it was fun singing and dancing with these girls. =) Up to now, NATF’s cover of Aerosmith’s Cryin’ is blaring in my ears. :p

And here’s me with my 2 favorite Lorenzos: Zo and Mio. 🙂

Can’t wait for the next surfers’ party. For sure sasabihin ko na naman na pro ako at magaling mag-TUNNEL.

Bittersweet Night @ Murphy’s

We may have faced a bitter defeat from getting 5th place in the quiznight at Murphy’s two Tuesdays ago, but it was also the night that we faced sweet victory from 3 of the Irish pub’s desserts…

Sticky Toffee Pudding

Chocolate Mousse (we added salt, masarap pala :P)

and my personal fave Triple Chocolate something-something

Oh well, got over it. We won 1st place last week. Hopefully, we can do it again tomorrow. If not, I’d be happy with 3rd place. I have yet to experience making a guest quiz. :p

Vday/Bday/CoffeePARTY

Last Valentine’s was the funnest. =) Party of 8 with Jap, Joko, Eunice, Donnie, Enzo, Kassy and Dietrich.

We made Valentine’s and Birthday wall greetings…

We ate good food: pizza, ensaimada, crinkles, liempo, lechon manok, chicharon…

We had an awesome coffee experience c/o of Jap the coffee addict.

There was also a surprise for the birthday boy. 🙂

I had loads of fun being with my constant lovelies. 🙂

February 14 was Hoplang-Hopla indeed. It was probably what Jessica S*** would have done. LOL.

Sorry, inside joke.

HOPLA!!!

IyaYoZo

After the VERY SPECIAL trip to the famous Mang Larry’s isawan, Yo, Zo and I went to the Bahay ng Alumni for camwhoring then to the SC for Rodic’s.

This is my favorite pic from the Bahay ng Alumni camwhoring. My besty has kickass spatial intelligence, even if the ex doesn’t agree. LOL.

How she achieved this fantastic shot? Eto.

This is our attempt in spelling Eunice’s nickname. Haha, hindi mukhang YO. Mukhang Y8, di’ba? Nyahaha. #fail

Flowers at the Shopping Center for ze Valentine’s season.

Iya + Yo = perfect combo just like tapsilog + sinigang na baboy of Rodic’s

MANG LARRY.

FAMOUS ISAWAN AT UP CAMPUS QC pa ‘yan! O ha?! O ha?!

😀

Bingeing at Banapple

The waiting time in Banapple was worse than our experience in Wee Nam Kee. Grabe, 1 1/2 hours. We were just (or ako lang yata hahaha) deadset on eating there that even if eating in the uncrowded, zero-queue BFAST was the better idea, we just patiently waited for our turn to be seated in Banapple.

Good thing, everything was fast and efficient once we were already inside.

Enzo was very hungry but he still had the energy to pose. The monster’s not smiling though. :p

We got their homenade iced tea (sarap!) and Pepsi (sad, hindi coke products). They also have shakes/smoothies, but neither one of us wanted any last night.

Enzo chose the the Migs Gallabergher, which according to the menu is  a ” juicy and herby all beef patty on mixed greens, topped with there special garlic-sour cream-barbecue sauce and lots of sliced onions, and blanketed by melted cheese and gooey mozzarella”. Enzo said it’s delicious, but thought the pattie was overcooked.

Baked Fish Gratinee with Scalloped Potatoes was my main dish of choice. Menu describes it as a “succulent white fish baked in cream sauce on bed of herbed scallpoed potatoes, crowned with a mozzarella crumb topping, served with white rice and corn relish.” It did not look appetizing at all. I thought I wasn’t going to enjoy it, but I still did. Well, what could go wrong with a white fish-cheese-potato combo anyway? I would have liked it better with greens than with rice. The fish tasted too “dainty” to be fully appreciated with an almost tasteless sidedish. I only appreciated the fish gratinee with rice when I put a dash of chili flakes.

Much as I love their bestseller, Banoffee, I opted to get something else. I took a chance in their Apple Caramel Crumble Pie. It’s almost perfect! Bakit almost lang? Sobrang init when it was served. Napaso ang ngala-ngala ko. Hehehe. But seriously, it’s something I’d want to eat again (with caramel macchiato!!!)  or give as pasalubong to my mom.

Enzo’s dessert of choice was the Strawberry (something something) Cheesecake. Sorry, I can’t remember the complete name, but it’s not the strawberry cheesecake with amaretto. The receipt says it’s Starry Berry. LOL. Anyway, like the apple crumble, I liked it. Enzo loved it!

Another thing he loved was…

the Chicken Pie with Potato Salad. This is what my friends and I always get when we’re in Banoffee Katipunan, and I told Zo that his visit in Banapple won’t be complete without eating this chunky chicken culinary masterpiece.

Here’s me looking very happy with my food.

FYI: I can eat everything (and more) in front of me. Oo na. Matakaw na.

FYI #2: I don’t know where my stomach’s annex is either. :p

Just bring out the Wee Nam Kee!

Two things why the Ayala Triangle Gardens is THE place to be:

Pretty Christmas lights…

AND

promising restaurants!!!

I’d like to commend myself (yay self!) for eating a big merienda, because we waited for almost an hour just to experience the (other) latest chicken craze in town: Wee Nam Kee’s Hainanese Chicken.

There’s also Bon Chon, but that’s for another Friday Foodie Night. :p

Anyway, here’s Enzo with our Wee Nam Kee dinner.

Behind that smiling face is a monster wanting to kill me for prioritizing taking pictures over feeding starving tummies.

Hainanese Chicken (personal set 170php), of course,

Asado Chicken Rice (175php),

Cereal Prawns (375php), and

Barley Juice (55php) and Iced Tea (50php).

The Hainanese Chicken, according to Enzo, was really tender. The meat had just the right amount of spice to tickle the tastebuds. The real McCoy, he thinks, to see if it’s really good is if it’s roasted. Yes, in Wee Nam Kee, you have the option to have your chicken steamed, roasted or in soya sauce.

For me, the Hainanese Chicken was fantastic. It’s now my 2nd favorite chicken dish, after my Mama’s tinola. 😀

The Asado Pork was tender, delicious, but a tad too sweet for my taste. It was quickly remedied by the dipping sauce I made– I mixed 1 tablespoon of soy sauce with 1/50 tablespoon of chili and 1/100 tablespoon of ginger. :p The spices I put were looked close to nil, but I swear, they’re there!

Notice how different my dipping sauce was to Enzo’s. LOL.

As for the Cereal Prawns, it was good, but I liked the cereal better than the prawns! I loved the cereal with the rice of the Asado Pork! I’m not a fan of prawns. Why we ordered it? It was recommended. Bestseller daw. 🙂

The Iced Tea was refreshing. I don’t know how else to describe it, hahaha. The Barley Juice tasted like… ginatan! In a good way, of course! I mean, who doesn’t like ginatan? :p Sort of compensated for them not yet having desserts.

I wanna go back to Wee Nam Kee to try their Roasted Hainanese Chicken, Pork Beggar Ribs and Mango Coconut Milk Sago. I probably will, after I try the other restos in Ayala Triangle Gardens.

Bon Chon, you are next.

I accidentally deleted my picture with the Barley Juice. So here’s a picture of me with my cappuccino in Starbucks, BF.

We attempted to have dessert/coffee at Banapple, but even at 11pm, there were still no available seats.

It’s ok. BF Homes is THE OTHER place to be.

ABOUT THIS POST’S TITLE:

I’m an 80’s baby, and a huge part of my childhood was devoted to watching cooking shows like Let’s Cook With Nora and Cooking With The Dazas. Lee Kum Kee was almost always the key ingredient. Haha, sponsor kasi! And I’m sorry, whenever I think of Wee Nam Kee, I remember Lee Kum Kee (complete with it’s super catchy jingle).

Bring out the Lee Kum Kee! Bring out the Lee Kum Kee!

In fact, when I posted the pictures in Facebook, I put Nee Kam Kee and Lee Kum Kee instead of Wee Nam Kee in all of the captions. Thanks, Mr. Misha Lecaros for the spellcheck.  :p Nadelete ko tuloy yung pic ko with the Barley Juice sa sobrang pagkataranta!
