Of Mouthwatering Liempo, Yummy Frozen Brazo and a Coffee-Drinking Cat

There’s a relatively new place in Jupiter called Chic-Boy (that’s for Chicken and baboy, you carnivores!) that has quickly become my favorite because of its Cebu-style liempo and almost-as-delish-as-my-mom’s variety of sinigang.

Manila Boy invited me to a foodies’ assembly (my first ever!) last May 27 at Chic-Boy. At first, I didn’t want to go because I didn’t know any of the foodbloggers attending the event, but when the Undercover Chef said she’ll accompany me, I was all set.

Cat, Marketing Manager of Chic-Boy treated us to an evening of free food. Damn right, 2 of my favorite words! We had Cebu-style liempo, Cebu-style lechon manok, sinigang na salmon belly, guinisang kangkong, lechon sisig, inihaw na talong with bagoong, turones de leche and leche flan. I liked everything, particularly the Cebu-style liempo because aside from being perfectly cooked, it didn’t give me a headache like when I eat other commercial liempo. The sinigang na salmon was delicious, considering it was only 45php (or 28?) a bowl. The lowly swamp cabbage (oo, pinaarte ko lang ang tawag sa kangkong) was flavourful and went well with the lechon sisig.

Joko rockin it, foodie style!

turones con leche (sana lagyan nila ng extra something like langka, nuts ot chocolate! รœ)

leche flan for 30php!

I didn’t take a lot of pictures because my camphone felt like a wimp in the company of the cool point and shoot and dslr cameras of my fellow attendees. Hehe, they’re really serious, food/photobloggers. :p I think one of their rules is to take a gazillion photos of the food first before taking a bite. The amazing number of photos payed off, as their blogs are filled with incredible pictures of glorious, glorious food. ‘Yung tipong ‘pag nakita mo, matutuluan mo ng laway ang keyboard mo. Check their blogs out! B’ley, Fritz, Spanky, Fran & Paul, Jane & Bubba, Jon, Kristine & Robin, AJ & Matthew and Candice

Cat and Spanky… thank you! ๐Ÿ™‚

The assembly ended with Cat giving us Pier One mugs and gift certificates. Chic-Boy is a subsidiary of Pier One, that’s why. Great food runs in the business (and family).

* I had dinner in Chic-Boy twice after the foodies’ assembly, and I must say,ย  their chicken inasal and sinigang na baboy are also good.

After my very first foodie-get-together, I had my very first trip to the red-light district of Makati for 2 of the most sinful things made by man ………………………………………………………………………………………………

frozen brazo de mercedes

and

extra thick chocolate milkshake

Both found in Filling Station in Burgos St. :p

I’ll blog abut Divino next time. Hahaha!

Last stop was Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in A-Venue to see the birthday girl Janice aka PussyCAT Jap. She turned 32 and it was her first birthday without a party. Pero ok lang yon, as long as there’s coffee, she’s happy. Adik! And of course, as long as she has great friends with her, she’s happier. Just stating a fact. Haha!

the 2 important Js of my life, Jap and Joko

with the only “cat” I don’t wish to kill… belated happy birthday dear!

I hope you didn’t expect that there really is a coffee-drinking cat! Cats don’t drink coffee, silly! They drink milk. And martinis! LOL.

I reckon that was a fun night! Friends and food! Can’t wait to do it again!

Oh wait, I just did. Entry about Top Meal coming up!

1. The title of this entry is a very rough Latin translation of Red Cross.
2. It’s an inside joke.
3. It’s also the title of an album in Facebook that contains photos from one of the most fun weekends I’ve ever spent with my girls. =)

Last Saturday, we visited Baby Awesome/Baby Panda/Caitlin Mikayla.

Look how absolutely cute our goddaughter is

and how totally pa-cute I was to her :p

Then we went to Cafe Juanita in Kapitolyo because Joko promised me yummy adobo. Hahaha.

The food deserves a separate entry. And a stellar review! =)

But fine… here’s a preview…

Cafe Juanita’s Sticky Toffee Pudding with Ice Cream!

After one of the best meals I’ve ever had, we went to Starbucks Glorietta (yep, had greentea frappe again) and watched Here Comes The Bride.

We had lots of laugh from the movie. Kudos to the cast, especially to Angelica Panganiban. Achieve na achieve! We were shiny, happy people until Carla’s BB got stolen. Gaaaah.

Tambay at A-Venue Suites after. After a bit of dramarama, we camwhored. We are that resilient. Nyaha!

We love Joko’s pad! Check out the view!

We watched a couple of Big Bang Theory episodes and when Carla went home, the rest of us went to Burger Avenue before going to CJ’s birthday party.

We love CJ because there’s always unlimited booze in his house. And unlimited people we don’t know but still have conversations with! :p

There was even longboarding. Shempre, ako ang taga-picture.

We went home 5ish and watched this Sean Faris movie before we went to dreamland.

When we woke up, we ordered lots of food from Rufo’s and and watched the Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Both of which I loved. :p

But not as much as I love my girls!

=)

Models and Gremlins

Went to Megamall last night for the premiere of D’Survivors. Thanks to Dar for the tickets and for giving me the opportunity to see Daniel Matsunaga in flesh. He’s like a taller, leaner version of my ex-crush, Abe. :p It was a misfortune that Daniel did not get to have an I โ™ฅ Iya picture because he was hounded by girls who wanted to take him home– haha, parang ako hindi! :p

Just want to share that Akihiro Sato is cute. So is Fabio Ide.

Joko, Darlene, Kassy and me (uso model at mukhang model sa barkada namin, hahahaha)

After the premiere, we went to Mogwai to see Mio, who just arrived from Seattle to give us Dingdongs and Twinkies before going back to Cebu this morning.

Lorre, Kwe and Miguel were also there. Liked the food. Had pasta, burger steak, poke (last year I had fuet, last night I had poke… what is wrong with food names?) and chocolate mousse. And beer. And lots of laughs because of pornstar names. Alcohol and friends on a Monday night is always a good indicator that the rest of the week will be good. ๐Ÿ™‚

Wait. Mogwai.

Mogwai aside from being a name of an artsy-fartsy resto in Cubao-X, is what you call a pre-Gremlin. ‘Pag ang mogwai, nabasa… gremlin na!

Like the fugly girls kissing each other last night.

Baptism, Mojos, Holmes and Burgers

After 36++ hours of being sick and paranoid, I was rewarded with a fantastic Sunday with the girlfriends.

We first went to St Andrew the Apostle Parish in Bel-Air for Caitlin’s baptism. Finally got to see my inaanak. I’m still afraid to hold her because she looks so tiny and fragile that I might accidentally crush her.

Mike, Carla, Caitlin and the ninangs ๐Ÿ™‚

Shakey’s jupiter for the reception where the anacondas in my tummy writhed in delight (pakk, parang nakakatakot yun ha hehe) because of the mojos, pizza, pasta and chicken. I just had a hard time resisting drinking Coke. I couldn’t drink anything cold now because of my laryngitis. Hence, smoking is also a no-no now. Anyhooz, instead of smoking, I just laughed and clapped (by shaking my hands like an idiot, kasi wala ako voice) from the tons of jokes over merienda.

(= Kwe . Miki . Kassy . Joko . Iya . Carla =)

This really cracked me up:

Joko: Ako si Miley Cyrus. Si Iya si–
Me: Taylor Swift
Joko: Ikaw LL, sino ka? Demi Lovato?
Carla: Ayoko dun!!!
Joko: Ok, do you want to be Vanessa Hudgens or Ashley Tisdale?
Carla: Vanessa Hudgens!
Me: Errr… in ferla, sa kanya si Zac Efron.
Joko: Ikaw Kassy sino ka?
Kassy: Selena Gomez.
Miki: How about me?
Joko: You can be Camilla Belle?
Carla and Me: Potah. Sino yun?
Joko: *googles* Here she is o. Maganda ‘yan!
Miki: Yeah she is! Ok, I’ll be Camilla Belle.
Kwe: *jumps up and down* How about me??? Sino ako???
Joko: Ikaw si Erich.
Kwe: Huh? Sino ‘yun?
Joko: Erich Gonzales ng Katorse.

Lol. We love you, baby bunny Kwe! Even if sobrang alaskado ka na naman kahapon especially about your alias Florahbhel. :p

Entertainment continued at R.O.X. where we looked for surfboards. Correction, Kassy and Joko checked our boards, Kwe played with the indoboard and nonsporty chicks Miki and moi sniffed at least 10 kinds of soaps and body butter. Banana milk, anyone?

After which, we went to see Holmes. The movie’s absolutely terrific! Gusto ko ulit panoorin! Hell, I’d even wait and buy an original dvd! Blueray!!! I love Ironman! I love Alfie! And errrr… I love girlfromTheNotebook, Rachel McAdams :p She is my girlcrush. Only, she’s not blonde in this film. Oh well, lovelove her role as Adler. Can’t wait to see the sequel! ๐Ÿ™‚

newest addition to my favorite movies

Last stop, Brother’s Burger. God, I love burgers. And large fries. And insane friends. And not smoking not only because I’m sick.ย  And not throwing a fit if I can’t drink Coke.

Oooh, and I love this photo of me by Miki. She’s awesome. Like me. Hehe.

Kung si Kwe, Katorse... Ako, Bente-Ocho.

See? Happy Sunday! I’m still sick but with all the happyvibes I got from yesterday, I can manage. ๐Ÿ™‚

Me: Joks, if you were to trade lives with a Hollywood Celebrity, who would you choose? Pwera sa obvious answer na Britney Spears ha. (Hardcore fan ni Brit si Joanna Katrina.)
Joko: Hah! Ang sagot ko d’yan is… Miley Cyrus! Kasi bata pa s’ya and marami pa pwede gawin. Marami pang pwede mangyari!
Me: Tanong mo ako kung sino gusto ko maging!!! Bilis!
Joko: O sino?
Me: Si Taylor Swift! Para friends pa rin tayo!!!

Today is my birthday. And this is one helluva happy birthday! ๐Ÿ™‚

I finally got the small, intimate celebration I’ve been wanting since I got sick and tired of organizing wasakan drinking sessions slash reuniting Christmas parties in the South every time I turn a year older. Time to move on from the place I used to call home and from some of the people who used to mean the world to me. It’s not sad, really. It just means I’m in a different place now and I have changed. ๐Ÿ™‚ But what didn’t change is my favorite combo of friends + alcohol + food + dancing.

with besty Joanna aka my teenage bunny and besty Janice aka Tita Pussy…cat

besty Eunice aka Yo… put us together and we’re IyaiyaYowwww

Last night, I got together with Jap, Eunice, Joko, Kassy and Kwe for my birthday salubong inย A.Venue Suites (Thanks, Joko’s Mommy! Biological Mommy, hehe!). We watched Stardust; ate chips, ambrosia, Yellow Cab pizza and pasta (4cheese and Corona, Charlie Chan) and caramel cake from Costa Brava (which is my 2nd favorite cake na, 1st pa rin ang rhumcake! :P); talked about the best and the worst of 2009; and of course, we camwhored. And we laughed. We laughed a lot. The bunny ears, Kwe being mistaken for a whore (I have morals, 1M a night!), the butas cardi of Jap and how to hide it in really weird ways, Joko’s kwento about seeing her crushie the other day (and the difference of reactions pag friends vs crush), Yo’s baking adventures (whipped cream fail) and Kassy’s pigletness (kirengkeng!!! congrats!).

Ten-sec countdown before my birthday… and *wooooooooo* I blew my 28th candle. My wish? I’d tell you if it happens already. I got a feeling it’s going to happen soon enough. Like sana, mamaya.ย ๐Ÿ™‚ Haha, speak of, by 12:05 it was VIBES time, made me miss Carla a lot! LLB, if you’re reading this, I hope next year, the whole Panda family will be present in my birthday :p Or kahit ‘wag na kayo ni Mike, kahit si Caily lang hehe.

chocolate mousse c/o Jap & Yo

Yum yum chocolate mousse + lemon vodka + Gilbey’s premium (my local poison of choice).
Rich dropped by (sana kasama rin si Maia), so my celeb was 95% estrogen lang. Hahaha. If Donnie and Joel were there, baka 93% lang. ๐Ÿ˜‰

We went to Tabu for a couple of hours because I wanted to dance and I wanted to be in my comfort/partyzone. Plus, I really miss Oryx. Much love to the dj who played almost all the songs I asked for. More alcohol! Yaaaaaayyy!

Tabu with ze ladies (Oryx, I miss you!!!)

with DJ Mark Nicosia

Back to the condo for rest, food, alcohol and Mia (who gave me a bottle of Patron). More food, more booze and more pictures.

By 5ish, Mia went home, Kwe went to Quezon to surf, Joko went to sleep and Kas and Iย stayed atย the balcony and flashed Makati looked at Makati and talked about the heavy stuff. Life and Love. It didn’t bring me down becauseย I still got ze birthday buzz. :p

with Miaboo

ahhhm… do I have another bunny daughter?

Slept around 6ish, got up around 11. Joko and Kas dropped me off and I slept again until around 2 hours ago. Kinda like a regular night out, but it’s my special day and I’m happier. ๐Ÿ™‚

Echo, WRU?

I love my friends and I support them in their endeavours. Most of the friends I am frequently with are surfers, and so I go with them to surfspots and attend surf activities (with all my poser terms and moves) every chance I get. Last night, however, I shamelessly admit, I went to Handlebar not primarily to cheer for Ejay, Lor and Jef for winning in the recently concluded Zambapalooza. I attended the MSA party in the hopes that I will see Jericho Rosales.

So sue me. Eh sa gusto ko magpapicture with him eh.

Anyhoodles, Echo-frustration and babyscare aside, I enjoyed the night! Yaaay for my superlarge bacon and egg sandwich and salad and fries! Double Yaaay for the music of Tempestous Jones. Triple Yaaay for seeing a longlost college friend, Sharon Sager! And loads of love to Joko, Kwe, Kas, Ejay, Mio, James, Lor, Paolo, Jef and Nicole!
