The Return of Friday Five

It’s Friday and the 1st day of the last month of the 1st half of the end of the world of the year. Whew! Thought of reviving the Friday Five section of my blog just so I can post ANY 5 RAVES/RANTS that I feel like letting the whole world know. I think the last time I had an F5 entry was when I was still blogging in blogspot. Been so long since I last had this quick satisfaction of attempting to immortalize the mundane and seemingly mundane here in the www.

Here it goes. My first F5 after a lengthy time…

1 TURON

image

I love buying turon from Jollijeep. It’s only 12php. Don’t really care if there’s langka (jackfruit) inside as long as it’s glazed with a crazy amount of sugar. Turon is my favorite local sweet snack. You can have your bananacue and camotecue. Gimme my turon.

Also…

Q: Anong saging ang nagma-magic?
A: Eh di… turon!!!

2 KICK DRUM HEART by THE AVETT BROTHERS

image

This indie rockband song was introduced to me by Eunice. There’s a sidestory about hearing this upbeat song in the wedding of a very non-upbeat bride and groom.

You can listen to the song here.

“I won’t look back anymore, I left the people that do. It’s not the chase that I love, it’s me following you.”

Yes, I am cheesy like that. :p

3 DOWNTON ABBEY

image

Just finished Season 1. Will start season 2 tomorrow while I’m vacationing in Bataan. Liking it because of the dresses, the witty dialogue, and Maggie Smith. I’ve loved Maggie Smith since Sister Act. Siya si Madre Superiora. 🙂

4 FREE CONCERT TICKETS

image

Phil Star delivered compli NKOTBSB concert tickets to the office today. I was thrilled to receive it even if I won’t be able to go and see Nick Carter in flesh. Just as I mentioned, I’ll be in Bataan. Will just videoke my alltime fave BSB hit, Anywhere For You. Uhuh. That saksakan ng cheesy song. I’m so fucking consistent, yeah?

5 GRIMACE

image

I’ve always loved Grimace and this picture just made me love him more! Grimace is infinitely better than that dinofag Barney.

Til next Friday! 😉

Happy weekend!

In The Bag – 2012

I blogged about what’s inside my bag 4 years ago and now, I’m blogging about it again so  I we can see the current trash contents of the bag that I always use. It’s a black BCBG tote given to me by Tita Vina, my Mama’s sister. Hmmm… it’s actually her gift to my mom but I asked Ma if I could have it and give her my azure Kenneth Cole tote instead. Of course she said yes. :p

Let’s look inside, shall we?

WAIT. I first have to tell you that inside my big bag are 3 more mini bags (or pouch, whatever you wanna call it) because I hate clutter. I also don’t want to get a bag with lots of compartments. Nakakahilo kasi.

image

One of the 3 mini bags is my vanity kit or kikay kit. Since I am not that vain (pasakan ko ng mascara ang nostril ng mag-disagree), I only have a few items in my kit. I have 2 lipsticks (pink flame and puta red), an eye shadow palette (pearl, beige, kohl), blush (2 shades of pink), lipbalm, black and dark brown eyebrow pencils, black mascara, lash curler, hair elastics, hairpins, a couple of bandaids, toothbrush, toothpaste and Clinique Happy. Note that I don’t have a comb. Obvious naman sa magulo ko madalas na hair. BTW, I got the kikay kit from Leyende. Their products are gooooood.

image
Then I have this. I call it the Bangkok-bag because it IS from Bangkok, a pasalubong from my friend Miki. It stores my Nokia C3 and Samsung Galaxy W (used to take the pics), earphones, a battery pack/portable charger that I bought from CD-R King for 820php (I absolutely like it!!!), gum, meds for headache, fever, cough and vitamins C and B-complex, and a couple of teabags. Right now, the flavors that I like are lemon and peach.

image

The 3rd is a small RL handbag. It was a birthday gift from Carla and Joko some years back. This is what I usually bring when I’m too lazy to bring my whole bag and I need to go out of the office or the resto for stuff like ciggie breaks. Quick sling, easy go. It normally has my company id, coin purse, Mighty Mouse tyvek wallet, a black pen, a mirror (the most valuable thing in the entire big bag because it was a gift from my Dad when I was 8, he got it from Osaka), a small Cricket, some cigs, a hanky, a fan, and housekeys.

image

Other usual items in my bag are my main wallet… a dark pink Liz Clairborne wallet that has all my ids and cards, a small black umbrella with bunny-print, a black cardigan, a scarf or shawl (now it’s a purple MNG scarf), and a bottle of water. Sometimes, you can also find cookies and chocolates in there. And books. Or a small stuffed toy. It depends on my mood really.

image

I wonder what my bag says about me. Some new age know-it-all said that the bag defines the lady. I am not sure where I read that or I’m only imagining things. Hihi. But assuming that it’s true, I guess my bag says that I am a practical, self-contained, organized girl with a few surprises here and there. I forgot to tell you. There are some mutilated body parts in there too. HAHAHAHA KIDDING!

That’s it! I hope you don’t tell snatchers about the stuff I have. I’m scared they might lust after my exceptionally feminine (bwahahaha) Mighty Mouse wallet!

Clueless V-Cut Liechtenstein

I got this from Sab who got this from Nikki who got this from Jheng who got this from Sophie who got this from…

See? Everyone’s connected. Don’t you just love getting entagled in the world wide web?

I do!

What were you doing ten years ago?
I was in my 1st sem of 1st year college in St Benedict College (formerly known as Benedictine Abbey School, now known as San Beda College – Alabang). If I can remember it right, it was sometime June when I first had my police encounter due to overspeeding (with the stoplight on red) and drug possession (merry jane). FYI: I wasn’t the one driving that cherry red Accord. I wasn’t doing drugs, at least not after 2 more years. I put the blame on Mark and Vina. Tsk, tsk. Bad influences! I was just an innocent passenger with nothing better to do. Haha, talk about absence of internal locus of control. :p

What are five things on your to-do list today?
1. Interview applicants.
2. Do background check of trainees.
3. Cook dinner. Creamy spaghetti and bruschetta!
4. Watch debedes. Rent and Clueless.
5. Write my next poem: Non-Linear Love Affair.

Snacks you enjoy?
1. Isaw baboy from Kalayaan or Ilang, UP Diliman.
2. Iskrambol from any kanto. The dirtier, the better. Hahaha.
3. Razon’s Halo-halo!
4. V-Cut, Lucky Me pancit canton, E-Aji chips, Tostillas, and
5. Shawarma!!! Extra cheese! Extra garlic sauce!

Places you’ve lived?
1. Mariveles, Bataan (10 years)
2. Tunasan, Muntinlupa (1 year)
3. BF Executive Triangle, Las Pinas (7 years)
4. BF Homes, Pque (8 years)
5. UP Village, Diliman, QC (grad school years)
6. Plainview, Mandaluyong (present)
7. Morong, Bataan (present)
8. PARALLEL UNIVERSE (all my life)

What are 5 things you would do if you were a billionaire?
1. Do everything in my power to meet Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Christian Bale, Channing Tatum, Shirley Manson, Ellen Degeneres, and Miley Cyrus.

2. Visit the following: Fiji Islands (to check if there are really cannibals there, will bring a shotgun just in case), Prague (because I fell in love with it when I watched Queen Latiffah’s The Last Holiday), Sydney (to whoop Voltaire’s ass), Scotland (to look for the Loch Ness monster), Tokyo or Osaka (to visit my Lolo Yamada, indulge in platefuls of sushi, unagi, and gyoza, and watch Puffy AmiYumi), Sicily (to join the Mafia and make HIM an offer he can’t refuse), and Liechtenstein (just because the name kicks major ass)

3. Buy houses. Yes, house in plural form. In Tagaytay, Paranaque, Bataan, and the places I mentioned in no.2. Well, except in Liechtenstein. Too hard to spell.

4. Donate to charity. Anything that has to do with educating the financially challenged but intellectually gifted youth of the world.

5. Buy a baby tiger. I’ve always wanted one.

People you want to know more about?
1. See no. 1 of previous question.
2. My crushies. Ahemmmm. Yiheeeee! *blush*
3. Aldo Carrascoso (Where the hell are you?)
4. My great-grandparents.
5. MYSELF. I can never get enough of me.

I’m tagging anyone who’s into introspection or has got nothing better to do.

That means YOU! Yes, you who are denying the obvious!

:p

A Dozen Idiosyncrasies

I can’t limit my post to 7 weird things about me. I just have waaaay too many. And well, I’m proud to be peculiar! :p

sweetvalley.jpg1. I collect Sweet Valley books— Kids, Twins, Saga,  Unicorns, High, University… everything! I still feel bad each time I remember Todd cheating on Elizabeth by sleeping with that girl Lauren in SVU Book 2. *tear*

2. I hate siesta. I’ll only sleep midday if I’m suffering from a lethal hangover. When I was still a Little Iya, whenever my Mom would order me take a nap, I’d just lie on my bed, close my eyes and count 1 to 1,000,000,000 slowly rather than take a trip to dreamland.

3. I sometimes make an “I’m going to throw up” look when I smoke. This freaks out a lot of people, especially Zo.

4. I like eating Kenny Rogers Roasters corn muffins with gravy from KFC. I learned this from my highschool besty named Katharina Agnes Luna Noessler – Scmitdz who’s also fond of eating ice cream sundaes with Coffee Mate.

5. I’m a human counter. I am obsessed with counting. I am passionate about keeping track of numbers despite my lifelong hatred for Mathematics.

6. Dessert is almost always not the last part of my meal. I don’t like ending my meal with something sweet and solid. I’d rather finish with something salty-savory and chase it with a long gulp of ice cold water or Coke.

bala.jpg7. I know a lot of lines from old Roderick Paulate and Maricel Soriano movies. My personal fave is from Bala at Lipstick. Roderick tried a floral hairband and asked the saleslady (Winnie Cordero) “Maganda na ba ako?” She said no and he replied, “Sincere ka nga. Bastos ka lang!”

8. I generally don’t let people in my room. I have never even let any of my friends sleep over. That goes out to my ex-bfs slash ex-somethings as well. I’m just not comfortable sharing my private space with others.

9. My ears burn each time the person I speak with ends his sentence with my name. Example, “So what are you up to, Iya?” And my ears scorch when people I am not close with call me by my real name.

10. I can’t seem to cry in front of people. This is not because I’m trying to be consistent with my tough cookie rep. My tear ducts are just… errrrm… shy. In fact, the only thing shy about me.

11. I don’t like to date people from the south of the metro. Why? Because I’m from the south as well. I don’t want “Always Something There to Remind Me” on repeat mode in my head as a break-up theme.

12. The only foreign statements I can make involve cuss words. I can curse in Mandarin, Niponggo, Deutsch, French, Spanish, Italian, Thai and Yiddish. Ess drek und shtarbn!

2007

Putting things off is waaaay better than complaining about things in front of you. Well, at least for now because I just can’t deal with them yet! Booya for procrastinating madness!

Tomorrow is another day. Another year!

2007 is going buh-bye and some things should go buh-bye as well.

—–

Where did you begin the year 2007? At home with my parents. I wanted a quiet start of the year with lots of introspection and left-over Media Noche goodies. I answered a year ender survey just like this.

What was your status by Valentines Day? Singular. What’s new?

Were you in school anytime this year? I visited UP twice this year I think. I should go to UP more often this 2008. Hello? I have thesis left. And double hello? I miss the isaw in Ylang!

Did you have to go to the hospital? Yes. Severe Community-Acquired Pneumonia was a bitch!

Did you gain or lose weight? Both, like a normal person. I was 125lbs when the year started. Midyear, I was 110lbs. Now, I’m 119lbs. Just the way I likey.

What food did you get to eat the most? Holy cow bakulaw! Where do I even start? Arrrrgggghh… Pizza, sushi, hotdogs, shawarma, twister fries, fried chicken, sinigang na baboy, cheesecake, salpicao, crispy pata…

What alcoholic beverage did you get to drink the most? Strong Ice and Tequila… and Rhea Rubbing Alcohol. Mwahahah!

What was the best thing someone ever did for you this year? I can’t single out anything. Basta someone really made me feel special through a series of surreal events.

What movie was your favorite this year? I didn’t get to watch a lot of movies. Olats. I still even haven’t seen Beowulf, Enchanted, and errrr… Titanic. Haha! Good thing there’s cable.

Ever been a fight this year? No. I don’t like fighting kaya.Hmpf.

Did you have any encounters with the police? No. The only police kwento I know involved one of my workfriends, Mary Jane and the Rockwell Police. :))

2007_1.jpg

Where did you go for vacation? I went to Bataan twice. First, to meet up with my cousins from Cali. Second, to attend my pamangkin’s christening. Both short vacays were fun, but I’m still a tad disappointed that I didn’t even have time to go beachhopping with friends. Oh, I have high hopes for 2008!

What did you purchase that was over 100 dollars? Dill, my baby! My digicam!

Did you know anybody who got married? Yeah. Ate Ching, Mary Anne, Kuya Relly… all three are my cousins. I don’t remember anyone from my barkada tying the knot this year.

Anybody who passed away? My mentor, Dr. Robinson Soria did. 😦

Attend any sporting events? None! Not as a player. Not even as an spectator.

What concerts or shows did you go to? A couple of Orange and Lemons and Six Cycle Mind gigs. I heart 70’s Bistro!

Describe your birthday: It was a night of many firsts. :p

You favorite moment(s): I have waaaaaaay too many. 1st quarter: teaching in Informatics was my opium. My students rock! 2nd quarter: gigs, gigs, beer, gigs and more beer. 3rd quarter…. holyshit. I have nothing for this q. I hated this period. 4th quarter: getting new work, starting a new career, dating, hanging out with friends almost every day…

New additions to your family: Yes. Thank God not from me. :p

What was your best month? September was like Spring to me. 🙂

Favorite night out? Foodtrip mania with Ate Dons, Donnie, and Jap, 70’s bistro gigs with ONL and 6CM with my ILTD lovelies and cousins, nights out with Sandro

2007_2.jpg

Made any new friends? No way. I’m waaay too snobby. Haha jk.. I have, and they’re awesome. Well, they have to be, I’m super selective about who I kick it with. (You’re right, Emcee.)

Other than home, where did you spend most of you time? The drinking strip of BF Homes :p

How old did you turn this year? 26 years young. Too young to care, old enough to know better! (Well, that’s the ideal.)

Do you have a New Year’s Resolution? Yes, a few. I have to re-evaluate my standards about a lot of things.

Have you had any regrets? None. Everything that happened this year was inevitable and vital.

Done anything embarrassing? Yeah, but I just laugh about it now. It’s not like it was the first time I got drunk in front of a lot of people. Galera’s still the shit.

Gotten married/divorced? Hell no.

Have you watched American Idol? Blake Lewis is love.

Have you gotten sick? Sick in the head since birth.

What’s a song that best describes you during the beginning of the year? Wilson Philipps – Hold On / Twista feat Faith Evans – Hope / Sheryl Crow -All I Wanna Do / ONL – Let Me

And by the end of the year? Natasha Bedingfield – Unwritten / Wilson Philips – Impulsive / Rihanna – Don’t Stop the Music / Sergio Mendes – What Do We Mean To Each Other

If you could give your life to get anything back, what would it be? Nothing worth all that trouble.

—–

Wow. I’m tired now. I’m off to Donnie’s!

Later!
